Mk4 Kit Availability

As soon as I saw the announcement I rushed to the shop to order a Mk4 kit. Very disappointed to find all I could do is to ask for an email update when available, although the assembled version can be pre-ordered.

Why can the kit not be pre-ordered?

When is it expected to be available?

People, be mindful! The first batches will be sold out quickly. Since I am curious, so i also will purchase a Mk4 kit 👍

Hello, I paid for the assembled MK4 immediately after the sale started, while it was in stock. The forum operator told me that I would receive an email within 3 days to collect the printer. Now the order shows that it will be available for collection around 1/6/2023 and another chat operator told me he was not able to answer. He says he will send me an email. I don't like this at all, it seems like a fraud on the customer.

I hope they are ready to sell and not making customers to wait for 3-6 months.

As with all Prusas, they probably already sold 20K in a day and there will be a wait.  Part of this is waiting for your printer to be built in a queue.  If you want it quicker, ordering it in kit form once available can speed this up.

Not really. If you read the announcement article, it says that they are giving people who pre-ordered the XL the chance to swap their order to the MK4, due to the delays and because the people that ordered the XL didn’t know the MK4 was coming out. It further says that they are doing the priority based on pre-order date. So anyone who pre-ordered an XL and switched the pre-order to an MK4 gets to bump someone like you or me who places an order now.

It sucks, but they did say what they were doing.

After all, I write here that one chat operator confirmed me within three days, then the order was 5-6 months old and another operator promised to write me an e-mail and no one communicates with me.

I’ll see how this goes. I just bought a MINI+ a couple months ago. Now after just having gotten a bonus and the MK4 releasing, I’m going to buy the MK4 immediately when the kit version allows ordering. As well as the MMU3. I have alerts set for both items.

Kit version is also better if you’ve never built that printer before. I see help questions here or on Reddit that I know the answer too because I built the printer myself.

On PrusaLive today, they mentioned that the projected Mk4 delivery dates are temporaily messed up and that recent Mk4 orders that are projected for June or later should be delivered much sooner.

I suspect it is a glitch. On their live cast the other day they said they had quite a bit of inventory. The upgrade kits don't even require them to print any parts out as they are shipping a spool of filament instead. So that just leaves PCBs and anything non-printable to source.

I'm on a Toyota Sienna forum. You should see what people are saying about the new Sienna hybrid. There are people waiting half a year or longer, features that were advertised that were removed before delivery, prices are way over MSRP, etc etc. Some of the same complaints I'm seeing here, only with one of the world's biggest automotive manufactures, making a $50,000 vehicle instead of a $800 printer.

I think it's well known there's a backlog for parts and materials. There's a shipping map somewhere showing all the boats and the congestion. Plus in China there is or was a lockdown to try to have zero covid which has caused major disruption and protests. Apple have started moving production to India and Google moved theirs to Vietnam. I was told there's a 6 month waiting list at least for EVs.
