RE: MK4 Current Owners - Issues? [POLL]

Curious if you can take a video and post it? I believe you, I'm just curious what "loud" is in context. Next to the other printers my MK4 is much quieter, but I wonder if when I run it alone, if it's "louder" than it should be. It lives in the maker space, so, I'll never notice the noise personally, but I am curious 🙂

With all of those issues, sounds like you need the printer replaced. Contact support, tell them all of this, and see what they can do.

I did, before writing the post. Followed the support tips and belt adjustment (which was OK to begin with), checking screws and rubber dampfersa, which all was good.

Today I got a mail with the idea to update the firmware, had 4.6.1 and tested 4.6.2 - no difference at all. If reading the change log, it really should make the printer rattle less. So, now wait and see what next step is. Is so loud and noisy, I can not really imaging anything else but to send it in.

Not sure how dented sheets didn't make the list, or filament runouts, but those are my biggest two problems.

Posted by: @iftibashir

There seem to be some common issues with the MK4. Just wondered how widespread these issues were - so if you have a MK4 already (assembled version of course) please do vote in the poll upon whether you have any of the reported issues!

Wonder if these are actual printer issues, or assembly issues with a lack of quality control……

"Dented" sheet was fixed in firmware already, and even with many dozens of prints on mine from factory, the dent doesn't impact printing even in the tiniest of bit for me (and yeah, I've printed over the "dented" area quite a lot with PLA and PETG). In latest firmware it doesn't have that at all though, so, a non-issue.

Non-issue...for you.

I, on the other hand, do take issue with damaged parts due to a product that was prematurely released to appease the crowd and keep up with the competition.

Are you having issues with denting that's causing a problem?

Absolutely.  On parts that I usually take advantage of the smooth look, I have to make sure to avoid the area because for me, it DOES show on my prints - as I've shown prusa support already.

I already did in another thead.

s" target="_blank" rel="noopener">mk4 very noisy

If you aren’t sure about if it is louder than normal, its probably fine.

I can’t hear my mk3S+, when I run them at the same time having the mk3 in a enclosure with open doors and the mk4 on top of the enclosure.

Would you describe exact which screws? (Picture or likewise?)

I didnt open the manual yet to learn how it is constructed, as it was factory built.

I have extreme noise, specially he two first layers or so. Constant hight/loud rattling. Would be nice o try to fix it.

( I already had help by the support for a few hours, checking a few things but all these was good from delivery. So far I havent found a single issue to change/adjust except the loud noice).

I would guess that I should expect the Mk4 to make about the same noise as the Mk3…?

Posted by: @tompi23

The first layer resonated, all I had to do was tighten the two screws holding the hotend and I have peace of mind.

This is absolutely exactly the same problem I had with my MK4. That's why I sent mine in. So knock yourself out and be sure to send the printer in otherwise you won't get rid of this noise. This is clearly a fault of the printer. Exactly this problem, there seems to be more often. In other linked YouTube videos here, the noise is exactly the same. It seems like you either have it or you don't. For those who don't have it, the printer is really nice and quiet. As I said, I have had the exact same noise and I sent my printer in because of it, they should.

RE: MK4 Current Owners - Issues? [POLL]

The support suggested the exact same thing to me. I should test these and those screws and jiggle here and there and press and so on. With me, too, all this has helped nothing. I don't understand why they then go through exactly the same procedure again with you, instead of suggesting replacing the printer immediately. Unfortunately, this is one thing that really annoys me about Prusa. It feels like you're always supposed to disassemble and reassemble the entire printer before Prusa takes any other action.By now, Prusa should actually know that this problem they and I are having is a design or mechanical problem that seems to have been caused by incorrect assembly.

For anyone interested, this is what my printer sounded like. In the meantime, as I said, I sent it in and am still waiting for the replacement printer.

RE:

for me it is not a rattling noise. Rattling is another  noise which comes from the printbed. It is this rattling what came from the bearings. I think this is a noise like sawing or screaming. But yes, it is the same what we have. And we are Not alone with this. I want to know the reason of this noise and where it comes from.

According to Prusa it was a batch of faulty motors?

Where did you hear that? Support could not tell me in this direction! I also didn't have any visual problems when printing. Everything looked flawless.

Dented sheets was overblown in my experience.  My MK4 didn't dent my sheets and I had one of the first ones.  It leaves a tiny smudge of filament that feels and looks like a dent but like any other filament on the sheet you can get it off with some IPA.

Thanks for the link.Ok so it seems like it's the motors. So all the more reason not to turn anything on any screws etc. but to send in the printer immediately.Well good that I have done that.

RE: MK4 Current Owners - Issues? [POLL]

My smooth PEI sheet did get dented in the z homing position while using the original 4.5.4 firmware and on one occasion it failed to set the z height correctly and actually printed the purge line too low and scraped the sheet. I sent photos to prusa support and they are sending me a new sheet. On the advice of prusa support I did check that the nozzle was tightly fastened and pushed up as far as it could go. I'm hypothesizing that it set the height to the bottom of the dent rather than the bed surface.

Since the firmware update to 4.6.1 the z homing seems to be gentler/slower and I haven't seen the same issue. I do still get blobs of filament at the z homing position, the three cleaning dots and all of the bed leveling points. For me they don't easily come off with IPA (I mainly use PLA filament) and I need to scrape them off.

This is with an early printer that was a day one order and has the 4 screw cover.
