What do the two spring-loaded screws adjust?

Or maybe they just had an abundance of parts to use up and hence stuck the dowel in there to use current inventory, while the 'next batch' of parts comes without that screw hole altogether.....

Don't get how that would make assembly easier, other then one less screw to tighten?....

Awesome. Hard to tell from the blurry photo but it may have threads on it and an allen key hole... but maybe not. Either way, it looks like a change to make assembly easier and not to fix any performance issue.

I have no idea either, but I'd speculate that alignment of the gear box is somewhat critical... maybe why it's made of metal. With an alignment pin that you can put in without covering things up, you can potentially spin the extruder a few times to sort of center the gearbox before tightening up. Like mounting a transmission on a car, the alignment pins ensure that even the little bit of looseness in the bolt holes don't allow a mis-alignment.

But again... I have no idea. Maybe they're just f***ing with us.

As some already noticed we changed the MK4 gearbox cover. It is manufacturing optimization and gives us a higher yield in production - we can make more printers. This is part of every printer lifecycle and MK3 had hundreds of production tweaks over time. This and some other little things slowed us down a bit, and we are now roughly 2 weeks behind the original estimated dates. We are now picking up speed 🏎️

We register a few user reports with MK4 not being as quiet as it should be. We are investigating, and it looks like one limited batch of motors with different specs is the probable culprit. I will follow up in the article 🔇

So, BS on the 50% failure rate claim and BS on the nextruder or any other "design flaw". Simple manufacturing QOL updates (expected over any manufactured product), and a small amount of QC issue / 3rd party vendor management.

Something something mountains and mole hills...

Thanks for the link - great update!

So turns out the sound issue were down to a bad batch of motors. And more updates are yet to come - I'm ready for my MK4 kit to arrive now!!!

RE: MK4 Current Owners - Issues? [POLL]

My mk4 is extremely noisy. Rattlijg noises most of the time.

I havent printed much earlier, just a very small lid for a calipers.
Now printing a couple of psrts to a shelf for the pei sheets and there is quite much curling on the surface of the infill thats printing right now. These curled plastic looks like metal shavings.
I have never seen this before with my mk3S+ that is closing in to one year in printing time.
The nozzle seems to pick up a lot of plastic on the outside from ”somewhere”.

I had some short print starts that was aborted due to the noise and also the prusa support, and this togheter filled the outside of the brass nozzle so it was almost not possible to see the brass of the nozzle. Took it away for this 16h print but it looks sbout the same again.

For me it looks like there is a major issue with vibrations, causing the whole printer to act as a resonance amplifier.

Also, I guess that either the removal of the vibrations or a fix in the software to print without causing curling on tje surface is needed.

My printer software also hanged once yesterday, or at least it became totally unresponsive to the knob.

Mk3S+, Mk4 MMU2S never worked properly

With all of those issues, sounds like you need the printer replaced. Contact support, tell them all of this, and see what they can do.

Im not trusting the pre-built units, especially after the fan connector mixup. I'd much rather build the unit myself so I can check everything as I build. I'm hoping that will reduce issues!

for what it's worth, my pre-built has been rock solid aside from an issue with the filament sensor not triggering properly.  Waiting for the assembly guide before I open anything up to take a peek.

RE:

Contact the support and get the printer exchanged.

I have also done this. But I'm still waiting for my replacement printer for over 2 weeks.Be prepared for a longer wait, your printer will probably stand around for a few weeks at Prusa before someone touches it and processes your case. The shipping department is really overwhelmed right now.

Filament sensor and crash detection seem to be another 2 aspects that I'm hearing raised quite frequently?

They said crash detection was in the early alpha firmware builds so I'm sure it's going to pop up in a build soon.

RE: MK4 Current Owners - Issues? [POLL]

My MK4 is super quiet... sits beside the MK3s and it's shocking how much quieter the MK4 is. the print quality also seems more "tight" compared to the MK3S.

It did have the fan wire mixed up so it clogged the hotend. I took things apart and the nozzle doesn't screw out of the heater block - I had to heat things up before I could unscrew the nozzle.

Prusalink connection, in addition to being slow, is buggy as hell. Exporting from prusaslicer to printer *always* ends with an error message, but the export does work and the printer does start a print. Uploading via the webserver crashes the printer  now and then. The WiFi protocol sometimes takes 2 minutes to boot up after a power-up. It is annoying that the printer sometimes (after uploads/finished printing/cancel prints)  needs user input before it allows remote commands.

I can live with the slow WiFi for now, but they need to improve the quality/reliability of the link/operations. I'm ok with starting an upload+print remotely and walking away. But as it is now, I have to baby sit the upload to make sure it worked and the print started which may take a good 5 minutes given the slow-ass WiFi implementation.

I did, before writing the post. Followed the support tips and belt adjustment (which was OK to begin with), checking screws and rubber dampfersa, which all was good.

Today I got a mail with the idea to update the firmware, had 4.6.1 and tested 4.6.2 - no difference at all. If reading the change log, it really should make the printer rattle less. So, now wait and see what next step is. Is so loud and noisy, I can not really imaging anything else but to send it in.

Unfortunately that's just PR speak.  It's easy to call any change an enhancement for efficiency but there was/is more to it than that.  Regardless of if they want to say - we messed up and didn't recognize an issue pre-production or not is fully up to them at this point.  I couldn't care less what people think.
