RE:

No. They are not the same Motors because the Mk4 Z- Motors are not compatible with the Mk3s+. https://www.prusa3d.com/product/stepper-motor-z-axis-right-2/

Posted by: @shledge

The z noise doesn't bother me as you can't hear it during a print - I think it's the motors though, and that they're the same motors used in the mk3 (my mk3s+ had the same z noise issue).

I already did it multiple times. Tightened, loosened, slightly twisted them before tightening to change their positioning (they have wiggle room for this)... I've even switched them around and tried the spare trapezoid nut. Screwed them in via the threaded holes, screwed them in via the non-threaded holes... All this made no difference. Even removing the screws completely didn't do anything.

I had the same sound with my mini+.

I solved it by loosening the two bolts securing the trapezoid nut.

I had tightened them too much.

You could also try this.

You should not grease the trapezoidal threaded rods, but I think that's exactly where the problem partly lies. The trapezoidal nuts can simply not move smoothly enough on the threaded rods, which is why these vibrations occur. When I screw the threaded nut on the rod back and forth, it goes extremely heavy.

Had major rattling which was caused by a faulty X axis motor. Prusa sent me a new one (warranty) and it works great. Not as quiet as my Mini, but at least the sound is now at an acceptable level. Other than that, works fantastic even though the firmware is only in alpha stage so far.

I received my kit in early July and took my time with the assembly (around 12 hours spread over 3 days) and I have been printing for the past 3 weeks with no issues. I could not be more pleased with how this printer functions.

Same here, MK4 kit, built over three evenings, has already 11 days and 6 hours of printing time on the clock - zero issues.

MK4 kit trouble-free assembly all test OK, great improvements compared to my MK3S, perfect first layer, less noisy, the Nextruder is really well designed, easy to access, no anarchic wiring as on the MK3, nozzle assembly easy change. very satisfied with my purchase, I just hope the MMU2/MMU3 update will also be well redesigned.

Much improved build experience and design over the MK3S+. Still exploring the new features. It's better quint quality, quieter and faster too.

I took my time assembling the printer and prints are flawless.  I have been printing nonstop the past 2 weeks since assembling and only had one issue where a filament jam caused the X axis stall on a nearly empty spool.  The prints are much cleaner, quieter, and faster than the MK3S, first layers reliably hold to smooth plates with a simple wipe of IPA pads.  The MK4 build documentation are top notch and the redesigned components are a significant improvement to design quality and performance.  Overall, I am very pleased with the MK4, well worth the wait.

RE: MK4 Current Owners - Issues? [POLL]

I'm having a recurring issue with the X and Y axes losing their "home" positions.  This causes them, especially the Y axis, to bang themselves against their stops repeatedly until they finally notice they found home.  The print bed will slam itself into the rear position literally dozens of times before recognizing home.  This happens at the start of a print.  It happens roughly half the times I print something.

The second problem I'm having is that the purge line at the front of the sheet does not put down any plastic most of the time.  It goes through the motions but nothing comes out.  This results in the first layer having an incomplete initial one or two lines until the extruder gets filament into the nozzle.  I've had to add a 3-loop skirt to all of my Print Settings to ensure that there's plastic in the nozzle before starting to print my object.  It happens with PLA and PETG filaments from Prusa and Hatchbox (I have no others).  I have no custom gcode for start of print.

I've seen your post in 3 different threads here (there may be more).

Have you contacted support, via chat?

What's the reason for "assembled version of course"? I've the MK4 kit, it works great, no issues at all even with Input Shaping. I don't think user-assembled printers are worse than Prusa assembled ones. If you have some experience you can do a better work on your printer compared to a chain line.

I voted in the poll and made my comment there first then, assuming not everyone would read and/or vote that, I started two new threads to ensure a greater chance of getting responses.  It was not my intention to spam the forums.

Exactly why I purchased the kit - you know that old saying: "if you want a job done properly, do it yourself". lol

Not saying Prusa do a bad job, but the printer isn't built in the 'caring' way an end user thats paid the full price would build it. I was also put off with some early reports of fan cables being connected in wrong places etc - I generally just prefer to build my own printer anyways, and the cheaper price certainly helps.

Assembled printers are very handy for those who do not have the time or patience to build themselves - maybe someone is adding to their print farm and just doesn't have ether time to build. They just want the printer in and running. It's a tool at the end of the day. Also early on, upon release, assembled printers were the only ones available - the kit came several weeks later.

You didn't get my drift!

Why are you posting the same complaint over three threads, apparently w/o talking to support about your issues?

Do you think other users can fix your problems w/o seeing your printer?

RE: MK4 Current Owners - Issues? [POLL]

No issues with my MK4 kit. First print after assembly was a 3dbenchy and it was flawless. Can't see any ringing though to be fair I hardly ever saw ringing on my old MK2.5S either. I'm using PLA and ABS on a textured sheet. Every first-layer has been perfect the load-cell bed-levelling is god-tier. Worth the upgrade for that feature alone. The older PINDA was reliable but dialing it in was a bit of an artform.

The MK4 was also my first experience with Prusalink and I liked it so much I now have Prusalink on my MK2.5S as well. It already had an RPi4 for Octoprint so it was just an SD card swap.

It's been fascinating to watch the Prusa team evolve the MK series. The continual improvement is obvious. They're honing in on the perfect design one step at a time. I know the new hotness is X/Y but I hope they don't abandon the Cartesian models. I would love to see an MK5 one day.
