So here is another one, the counterpart from the same model. This time I wiped the plate before starting the print.
And I inspected the plate with a loupe. There seems to be a very slight blemish from the nozzle in the surface, but nothing I can feel with my finger as I can on the smooth sheet, where it is also easily visible with my naked eye, for whatever that is still worth. 🙂

Yes, on my smooth sheet it looks exactly the same.

When I look at my smooth sheet, I can maybe see an indent if the light catches it. It's definitely tiny though, and I can't even really feel it running my finger over it. But so far, I've had zero issues printing over that area. I have over 5 days of print time so far on my MK4, and the only failures I've had so far were:
1) When I fat fingered in first layer speed and it tried to throw down at 100mm/s
2) PETG that may not have been dry that spaghetti'd on me about half way through a difficult print (to it's credit, PrusaSlicer said I needed supports, but I didn't put any in, wanted to really see how it'd do without).

When I saw it, I was thinking "Man, that looks like printing over a fingerprint". Because while I try to never touch the print area, sometimes it happens and I have fairly oily skin so there's no sneaking it by my printer.
That booger is not caused by a dent in the sheet, it is where I touched the sheet with my finger. I did not wipe it down before the print, totally my fault. I checked with my finger before for the same indentation as on the smooth sheet. That is "orange" and "fingerprints" in the same sentence at least the second time this week. 😉

I'm really wondering why this process is done inside the print area instead of just outside of it closer to 0,0. Not only would it avoid blemishes under future prints but it would also then put it right over a bed mount point which seems like a good idea, in general.
Of course, ideally it shouldn't be damaging sheets or pressing down that hard on the bed which is bound to eventually lead to some warping or de-levelling of the bed.

Exactly my concerns, and why I'm hoping this is addressed before my MK4 is delivered. Doesn't seem like it's bugging folks or affecting first layers, but still… it should *not* be creating an actual indent in the build plate; that can't be intentional… right?

You don't? To be fair though, I've bitched A LOT about the MK4 since I got it just a few days after the announcement. I may have desensitized people 😀
I should also add that the MK4 sheets feel thicker than the MK3 sheets, so maybe this was just yet another thing that wasn't accounted for when pushing out the MK4. And when I say pushing out, I mean it. It wasn't a release of a new product as much as it was "get this into their hands and we'll iron things out later at their expense". You know, pressure (e.g. bamboo labs) does that to people.
I'm waiting on delivery of my MK4, but I'm noticing a LOT of chatter about MK4s creating a divot in the front left corner of the build plate due to the auto-leveling process.
I don't see a discrete topic called out for this, so wondering if this is isolated to a handful of early and vocal MK4 users or if it's a more systemic issue in the 4.5.4 firmware.
Tried to find a reported firmware issue on GitHub, but nothing jumped out at me.

I noticed today that after printing over that area a few times (no sign of it on the bottom of my prints), it's now more of just a small dent with softer edges so the PEI is healing itself, at least. I'm still concerned about the long term impact to the bed but I can't say that I haven't pushed just as hard on the bad with my plastic scraper at times so...

So now after the new firmware update (4.6.1 ) the pressure it applies for that first home is far less so I can't see the divot showing up again on any new printers one hopes not that I found it to be a mega issue
Other then that everything has been going very well

I figured it was a simple matter of adjusting the pressure via firmware, so this is good news.
I did, however, cancel my MK4 order (for now) because of the issues uncovered in the "bad bearings" thread. It's looking like hardware changes (tweaking parts tolerances, etc.) are required to fix the issue(s) and I'm okay waiting until they've sorted all of that out.
I'll just keep on truckin' with my Mini+ for now.

It just updated on the first reboot since it arrived - current version reports 4.6.1
