Mk3 to Mk4 its not a full upgrade. Not happy
It looks like the upgrade does not include the stiffer frame, it adds vibration dampening. Also does it include the Thicker Z-Axis Rods? If not its not a truly MK4. Not sure why both are not included for the price it should.

Hmm, I hope that is not actually the case. I don't see the specific components listed on the upgrade page yet, but would also want the upgrade to include everything to upgrade to a full MK4.

Please note. You also need to print all printed parts. They are not included in upgrade package. So before selling/ disassemble your printer you need to print them.

There seems to be a number of upgrade options. 3.5, 3.9 and 4.0. One is just the control screen and controller board, then there's an option with upgraded extruder I think, finally the full kit and new stepper motors.

To me it seems clear from the wording of Joe's post alone that the full ->MK4 upgrade option is there more for the possible upgrade path options' completeness than anything else. Otherwise it seems Prusa themselves don't really believe in the value proposition of this particular option and I understand why.
Just look at the prices and ask yourself, would you rather:
- Pay a bit less than a complete MK4, spend time to strip your MK3 down to pieces, rebuild it as MK4 and leave with a bunch of leftover parts in your drawer.
- Pay a bit more for a complete MK4 and actually end up two printers. Either use the two in parallel, keep it as a backup, give MK3 to the kid in the family, resell it, etc.
I know what I will do.

That is what I am doing. I find building the printer relaxing and education. It is invaluable the first time you have to repair one.

Adding new frame to MK3-->MK4 upgrade does not make sense. It is better to buy a new printer (MK4) right away.

I got a reply from Prusa. You do get the Z axis rods but not the frame. The only way you can tell the difference will be the frame. He said the frame has no impact, even though they say has better dampening.

I don't see the frame as a big deal here. The existing Mk 3 frame is already pretty beefy. Dampening vibrations a tad more might be preferable, but looking at the frame design, the improvment is going to be pretty small there (and for credentials sake, I am a mechanical engineer). Add in the input shaper, and I don't think you'll be able to tell the difference in the print, particularly if the printer is located on a fairly stable surface.
I have a fully functioning Mk3S+ I intend to leave unmodded for a minute. I also have a partial Mk3 kit that friend bought a few years ago and never completed. For some reason, he started with the extruder, managed to break a couple parts a lose a couple more, lost confidence, gave up, and put the whole box in his garage for a few years. He saw my unit working and asked if I wanted a box of spare parts. Yes, please! Given that it doesn't have an extruder, it's the perfect candidate for the Mk3 -> Mk 4 upgrade kit. Once it's up an running (Father's Day!? PLEASE Josef!!!!), I'll probably spring to upgrade the other printer and have two of these bad boys running. That should really cut down on production time, I was kinda wishing the Mk 4 would have a biggfer print volume, but the automated first layer calibration is a very big deal to me. Right now, I fing that especially for PETG prints, I kinda have to baby-sit the first layer to ensure I get a good print. I have it working mostly reliably, but it'll be great to not dread (as much) a Blob of Doom every time I start a print. For some reason, the black Overture PETG seems to especially want to blob up.

They give you the filament with the upgrade kit, so it's not like you're not getting anything re: printed parts.

Agreed but it would have been nice to include. The price on the frame cant be the expensive.

Ordered two MK3S+ -> Mk4 upgrades yesterday, thinking that the result would be the same as buying a new MK4.
I'm a little disappointed that the Prusa shop doesn't state that it will only be a partial upgrade.
I wanted the experience of a fully functional MK4, where the frame was also top quality (there is a reason why it has been changed).
Maybe the best upgrade path is to buy a new MK4 Kit and sell the old printer at a low price - also better that the bits from the MK3S+ are used instead of ending up in the drawer...

As soon as the YouTube video said "90% new or upgraded parts" I knew this wasn't a suitable upgrade. Prusa promised an upgrade path so it's there but it's not economical in my opinion.

I have a feeling there are going to be lots of MK3S+ for sale on the used market shortly. I was going to do the upgrade, but given the information will likely just purchase a MK4 instead and then sell my old one.

That said, for the pricing involved, I can't see it making much sense to buy the "full" upgrade kit. Having two printers is worth an extra $200, especially when the upgraded one wouldn't be 100% the MK4. The more interesting question will be if any of the partial upgrade kits prove to be good bang for the buck.

I'm in a similar boat, although in my case it was last month I got one. Of course I've had one month out of the parts and that what bothers me, barely broken in.

Did you buy it in the last 30 days? If so, you'll get a $150 USD voucher by email to cover the difference in price, as the MK3+ kit price dropped by $150 when the MK4 came out. You could use that to buy an MK4 kit for $650 instead of the normal $800.
