is it possible to convert a jpeg
to an editable file for fusion?
I've converted them to 3mf and stl but can't edit them.
I want to print the outline of a province that would take me months to draw and it would look horrid. lol
RE: is it possible to convert a jpeg
Scan it as an SVG, use Insert SVG in Fusion to load it, then Thin Extrude the lines.

Or use Inkscape to convert to svg, in my experience more accurate than scanning

Very true. For some reason I thought OP could scan the original whatever it is again, to svg instead of jpg. But if he's starting with a jpg, yes, using Inkscape or one of the many online conversion sites makes most sense.

RE: is it possible to convert a jpeg
To be fair it's probably worth searching for an svg of the province as there are loads of open source svg's of all sorts of things if you look and that would be the easiest option.
But be aware however you get to the svg, it might need a bit of a clean up in f360 before being useful.
RE: is it possible to convert a jpeg
And don't forget if they can get a svg then it can be loaded directly into PS now since 2.7. No need for fusion.
RE: is it possible to convert a jpeg
tks folks.
Installed inkscape, converted the jpeg to an svg file format, inserted it in fusion and got this error message
Error: The selected SVG file contains no information or some unsupported information. The Fusion sketch will not include unsupported geometry.
What did I miss?
RE: is it possible to convert a jpeg
update. took JP's advice and got some svg files for the province and got them inserted in fusion.
you folks rock..
RE: is it possible to convert a jpeg
We try 😇

RE: is it possible to convert a jpeg
and I'm back. lol
Trying to convert a jpeg that an svg file doesn't exist for.
I've tried saving the jpeg as every type of svg file in inkscape and keep getting the error message I mentioned above.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
RE: is it possible to convert a jpeg
Just "save as" does not do the job. You need to convert the jpg into a path first.
From the "path" menu select "redraw bitmap". I do have the german version and translated it back. It might have a slightly different name.
With the dialog you need to try&error a bit.
Once you have the path delete the original jpg and save the path as an svg.
I personaly use dxf and import dxf into Fusion360. Check in Fusion 360 that the path is a closed path. If not connect some of the points manually. This is also a try&error
Hope that helps
RE: is it possible to convert a jpeg
it worked perfectly once I realized you were talking about inkscape and not fusion. 😊
thank you sir.

converted a jpeg to a plain svg in inkscape but when I try and upload it to fusion it won't appear in the work space.
RE: is it possible to convert a jpeg
Did you delete to jpg in inkscape? It's a mistake I've made. When you convert you end up with two images overlaid on top of each other, you need to delete the jpg so you no longer have it in the file. SVG standard allows embedded images but Fusion 360 does not know what to do with it, you need a clean vector only file for f360 to read.
If you cannot get it to work, zip the svg and upload here and I will take a look at it tomorrow to see if I can find the problem.
RE: is it possible to convert a jpeg
I deleted the original and saved the inkscape one as a plain svg and used the upload tool in fusion and it let me select the file but that was as far as I got.
thanks for looking at the file for me.

RE: is it possible to convert a jpeg
Well it works for me, although the type of image it is does not come out too well.
You need to insert the SVG into a sketch and where it places it seems to be a bit random so on the first try for me I had to zoom out quite a bit to actually see it and it inserted it upside down. I've attached the Fusion file.
RE: is it possible to convert a jpeg
tks. I'm aiming for as much silhouette as I can get. Making a key rack for a friends bike.
I tried inserting it in a sketch and zoomed out until the origin disappeared and still couldn't find it.
I struggle. lol
RE: is it possible to convert a jpeg
I converted it to a microsoft edge html (svg) file and fusion won't recognize it.
How did you convert it to fusion360 format?
RE: is it possible to convert a jpeg
Don't understand what you mean by "I converted it to a microsoft edge html (svg) file and fusion won't recognize it." What did you convert, what did you use to convert it and into what?
HTML is very, very different to SVG
What I did was:
Using the file you posted above.
- Open fusion 360
- Create a sketch, the plane should not matter.
- Insert/Insert SVG
- Insert from my computer
- Select the file
- Scale if required
- Press OK
That's it.

I saved it in inkscape as a plain svg...
I knew I was doing something wrong..I tried to upload it into fusion not insert it.
tks you again for the help.
