Getting MK3S+ today, should I refuse delivery?

Well this is bad luck. Got the MK3S+ today and see the announcement of the MK4. I am in the US and paid the duty yesterday. It is scheduled to arrive today. Should I refuse delivery? What happens if I do that?Between shipping and duty it added $300 to the printer.

Many may disagree, but I find this business practice deceitful.  Pushing shipments to clear inventory. Hiding new releases. Not giving customers the opportunity to wait or at least let them know something is coming.

Thanks, but I don't want a voucher, I want the MK4. The upgrade kits are $499, what value is a $200 voucher? Shady.

The kits have three prices - 250, 500, and 580 USD.

The 580 kit gets you everything for the Mk4 except the new vertical frame.

The 500 kit is everything except the frame and the new stepper motors.

The 250 kit is some upgrade stuff but you won't get the Nextruder.

Beyond that, like I know its not your fault and all, and Prusa should have given some notice rather than springing it on people so they could decide what they wanted (drop the mk3 price and clear out inventory, let people put in orders for the mk4, etc) - but its kinda a dick move to just refuse it.  It is, after all, what you ordered.

With that said, if you just bought a mk3 and I was running the company, I would offer more than 150 off if you ordered an upgrade kit.

I think the dick move was on the part of Prusa. At minimum they could offer the upgrade kit gratis.  I've got 2 hours to figure out what I'm going to do.

Couldn't agree more. Very disappointed in Prusa. A buddy of mine was looking to buy his first 3D printer early last month and I recommended he get a Prusa i3 Mk3. If I had had ANY clue they were about to drop the Mk4 I would have told him to wait. Plus it looks like he voucher is only for people who ordered Feb 29th or later. So he won't even get the voucher.

Yeah I'm refusing delivery today. Based on this I'm on the fence about ordering anything from Prusa in the future.

I know how you feel. I ordered 2 MK3S+’s and an MMU2S on February 22nd. I contacted them today for just the vouchers. I think I’m going to be sending mine back to the company and reordering.

Maybe, I’m still on the fence about the reordering part as well.

I chatted with Prusa through the web site. Admitted to me if they announced new printers that they wouldn't be able to sell the old ones. That makes no sense - they are selling them today for $200 bucks less. Their inventory is more important than their customers.

I'm watching out my front window to stop the DHL delivery person from carrying the boxes to my front door.

Good luck, they have me irritated today for sure. Worst case is you don't get your shipping back, still cheaper than an upgrade kit.

Yes, it is the cheapest option. I just met with the DHL driver and refused delivery. Now the fun begins in waiting for the refund.

RE:

What happens if you refuse delivery? I'm not sure. I did a quick search, and with the exception of cash-on-delivery shipments, refusing a delivery doesn't mean you don't have to pay for shipping. In fact, it seems that refusing delivery doesn't mean the seller is required to issue you a refund.

Prusa has a 60-day any reason return policy (except for sealed items that are opened like filament), so to me, it seems the best thing is to accept delivery and contact Prusa to do a return. They'll give you a return label and you ship it back. You have to pay for the return shipping (which seems quite fair), but the original order cost (including shipping to you) minus return shipping cost will be refunded to you. https://help.prusa3d.com/article/refunds-returns_2286

A different company I ordered from recently, Luna Cycle, says you can return unopened items within 14 days of delivery for a full refund, minus shipping. That's minus shipping both ways. Luna Cycle is very clear that you must have written approval for return, and if you just send the item back to them without approval, you'll need to pay shipping (a third time) to get the item send back to you, or you have to sacrifice the item.

Prusa is extremely nice that they will refund the initial shipping to you. Standard policy from most places I've seen is you get a refund, minus shipping (both ways), minus a 15% restocking fee or similar.

I'd suggest you don't start a war over this, and accept delivery and request a refund. Then ship it back to them after getting the details worked out. You'll only be out return shipping. All bets are off as to what happens if you refuse delivery, Prusa didn't list that on their site. My guess is they will still refund you, but they are certainly not required to do so, from what I can read.

And maybe, just maybe, if you are nice and polite about it, they may even discount the purchase of an MK4 by the price you paid for return shipping? I have no clue if they would, but back when I worked customer service, if you were polite I'd help you as much as I could. If you were a jerk, I'd do the bare minimum I could do without getting fired. Don't be a jerk.

When I contacted them via chat they stated I could refuse delivery. Also by refusing delivery I can prove I never opened anything. I’ll play this out.

Not sure what the ‘being a jerk’ comment has to do with this thread. That seemed to come out of nowhere.

To make MK3S+ people less disappointed, i think it would be a smart idea to offer a 30% discount on MK3 -> Mk4 upgrade kits
for those who bought a MK3S+ in the recent 30 days.
Maybe give this discount also to people who buy a MK3S+ now after the release of MK4
