Can I use my files sliced with an older version of the Prusaslicer on the Mk4?

Can I use my files sliced with an older version of the Prusaslicer on the Mk4?  I have lots of older files that took a long time to create.  Can I use these older files that were sliced for a Mk3 on my Mk4 Printer )if and when it arrives...)

The release notes for the firmware 4.6.1 said that the MK4 can handle g-codes for the MK3xx.

I am a bit perplexed about why would you want that? I understand the MK3 compatibility mode for farms but otherwise I do not keep the "old" gcode files in my computer. They are on the sd card, but MK4 uses usb drive instead so you won't reuse that anyway.

What are the benefits or other reasons to keep the gcode instead of stl or (in case of settings tuning) 3mf files?

You should get into the habit of saving a 3mf project file for every thing anyway.  The 3mf files are usually smaller than the collected stl files used, have all the settings and modifiers etc all in them and makes it almost painless to reslice if you do need to change the printer for example.  You can also always just get the gcode again.

As prusa do update the profilers used having a copy in a 3mf means you can get exactly the same output (assuming you slice with the same version of PS).  Loading a stl in again and re-slicing means you could get different results as the profiles might have been changed on you without you realising.  That's one reason to save your own renamed copies of any profiles you regularly use too.

In many cases I failed to save old stl or mf files....

This is something I will do in the future.  To quote Aeschylus "True wisdom is only acquired through suffering..."

Yet, Can I safely use the old files on the MK4?

Yes, but not Mk3 (message from prusa), only MK3S or + with or without MMU2.
Then the MK4 ask you to go to MK3x mode. Try it and you will see.

I saw no big differences, the automatic MK4 Z routine worked, too.  It was a complete Mk3S Gcode, with his start and end gcode. The purging line was like the Mk3S does (it's in the start gcode).
