Exactly. And as I said, mine was an original MK3 kit. Which I then upgraded to 3s+ spec with a kit from Prusa. And then upgraded again with a Black PSU to allow me to use the quick disconnect system in the enclosure. So is it upgradable again? Who bloody know at this point. And hey - might never know at the rate they keep moving fulfilment dates back.

This news took the wind from my sails. I sit here with no idea when I can upgrade my printer even with a March 29th order.

I am not certain it is the PSU that is causing the problem.  Where did you all get that?

I guess it is possible.  I replace my silver PSU also.

It has always angered me that there was no quick disconnect from the PSU.  Sure, I can make my own, but building it into the printer would be better.  I wonder what the issues with with the silver PSU.

How did you know this and what is the issue with the Silver PSU?

Posted by: @jmh714-2

I already knew that MK3 with silver PSU is not upgradable. I have two MK3s - I bought the original MK3 (with silver PSU) and MK3s (with black PSU), but both are upgraded to MK3S+. I ordered full MK4 upgrade for my black PSU and I'm not sure if they will look at me and uncertain which I ordered the upgrade kit for which printer. Maybe I should contact customer service and let them know?

"MK3 to MK4 upgrades

After the production of MK4 upgrades started, we discovered that some of the old revisions of the MK3 are not fully compatible with the upgrade. We already have a solution, but we need some time to implement it in production. Until then, we are shipping the upgrade only to customers who own (according to our database) a compatible printer.

To avoid potential confusion, we decided to temporarily remove the shipping table from this article until we will be able to ship MK4 upgrades to everybody."

My printer was originally Mk3s+ built by them, no upgrades ordered in 2017.  Anyone know if "temporarily remove the shipping table" means they just stopped shipping?

RE:

The early MK3 kits had heat beds with wires that were soldered on to the heat bed.  It used a different connector cover than the heat bed with screws / terminals.

It also used a plastic spiral wrap instead of the textile fabric cable wrap.    You would need extra/different parts not included in the upgrade to make it hook up to the MK4.

They switched to the screws/terminals on the heat bed around My 2018.

Thanks.  That makes sense.

Speaking of my comment about silver PSU - it was just a guess - not an educational one. 🤷‍♂️

So you’re saying that I have a chance that I will get my upgrade next week.

RE:

I am saying the heat bed is another possibility of why the early MK3 units have an issue with the upgrade and requires a workaround.

The heatbed might not be the issue or there maybe more than one issue.   We won't know for sure until Prusa gives more details and an updated shipping schedule.

Be thankful that you’ve got something! A lot of don’t yet. 😜

I'm hoping that as my mk3 does not have a soldered connection to the heat bed - it’s got the m3 screw connections for the power leads - I might possibly get mine sooner rather than any later. 🤞

It's now July 31st. I ordered the MK4 upgrade on day one and I have nothing in my hand to show for it.

This is not how you treat loyal customers. There should be more transparency on the orders.

Nothing but empty promises.

Anyone inquired about discounts/reimbursement for the delays?

At this point with no one bothering to give updates I'm just staring at the cancel button for both my mk4 upgrade and the 5 tool XL printer.

Would you rather have an upgrade that will not work?  They do their due diligence to fix a problem if reports are correct.  I would be patient and wait for the fix.

RE: 3s+ to 4 upgrade kits - has anyone’s shipped yet?

16801273XX March 29th order here. Also still waiting.

At this point in the waiting game, among the issues I take with all of this, is that it appears some of the loyal Prusa owners were essentially alpha testers for the MK4 upgrade kit. I can't conceive of a situation where they weren't able to vet the MK4 upgrade on the configurations that they discovered had problems "After the production of MK4 upgrades started".

As well as Prusa is not at the very least being overcommunicative if they are forced to keep pushing the ship date further and further back. Maybe I'm just not seeing it anywhere, but the lack of any solid info from Prusa is extremely frustrating. Tell us you had a supplies order intercepted at the Customs Administration, that the factory was closed for some reason, or that a critical parts supplier did X to cause delays. Something better than moving the ship date estimate over and over again, then having to remove it altogether. Chat reps appear to regurgitate the same info, which isn't any different.

I am among those who have a MK3 with a silver PSU, and have done the MMU2S upgrade kit, then MK3/S to MK3S+ upgrade path. I had to select silver PSU I believe when I ordered the MK3S+ upgrade. I can't be the only one who never had an inkling that the older silver PSU could be a detractor later on in my ownership.

If you've read this far, I asked earlier if there was any discount being offered on a MK4 kit for those in our situation. I was told no, which was disappointing but I guess not surprising for now. They at least said if I edited my order to add a MK4 kit and removed the MK4 upgrade, that I would keep my order date priority and a full kit should "be shipped very fast". Maybe the extra ~$220 would be worth it to eliminate the waiting game, and remove the possibility of further issues with my hardware that has clearly not aged well? I also don't want to do the upgrade and then the older PSU fails in a few months, and it's some crazy headache to replace it.

Staying the course for now and hoping something significant happens this week 😬

I’m guessing people thought Prusa was doing their “due diligence” with delay after delay. I know I certainly thought they had done it.
