No LEDs on LoveBoard 🙁

Hi all,

I've just finished upgrading one of my two MK3S+ printers to a Mk4 using the upgrade kit.  One thing I have noticed is that the Loveboard does not have any LEDs mounted near the top edge. Whether it's because it's a new revision (or an old one), I don't know.

Has anyone any idea why I wouldn't have the LEDS, or is it time to contact Prusa Support?

Thanks.

They probably figured out that the LEDs can't be seen under the black cover anyway, so why would they put them there?😊

I hope not, These are pretty handy when diagnosing problems. After all the plastic cover comes off when you trying to figure out why you machine is giving you the middle finger.

I've just had a chat with Prusa Support and this is a transcript of the conversation:

Hi, I have just finished upgrading one of my MK3S+ printers to a MK4 using the Prusa upgrade kit. Two points regarding the kit:

1. I am missing the 4mm steel ball and one of the 15 x 5 mm springs. No big deal as there were extras in the Spares bag. It does mean I no longer have spares of course.

2. The LoveBoard I was supplied with does not have any LEDs mounted across the top of the board. Is this a faulty board, a new revision, or an old revision? I believe they are use for diagnostic purposes

Giuliano  02:20:14 pm

sorry about the missing ball and spring, the spares are there just in case of any piece missing

if the loveboard doesn't have the leds, probably it's the previous version

REB  02:22:58 pm

Can I get the version with LEDs please.

Giuliano  02:23:18 pm

not sure if this entitles for a free replacement, but I'll look it up

REB  02:23:24 pm

OK

Giuliano  02:27:00 pm

I found out something new

actually this is the newest loveboard

the leds were removed from the new units

cause they served little purpose and it was just adding to the manufacturing costs

REB  02:28:31 pm

OK, I thought that might be the case. Thank you for the information and help.

I get the desire to save costs, but knowing that those are actually kind of handy to see that the "heartbeat" signal is there, it's a bit disappointing.  I'm hoping that at least folks would be able to solder their own LED + resistor on there to get it back, assuming they could get the correct spec.

I get the desire to save costs, but being able to see the "heartbeat" signal was definitely nice to have. Hopefully users can solder on their own LED+resistor if they are given the appropriate specs.

RE:

Excuse me for digging up this old post, but I wanted to contribute my two cents to that conversation.

Only today, while examining an issue with one of my three MK4(S), did I realize that two are missing those LEDs, too. Both were purchased in the first half of 2024, while the first one was purchased shortly after the release of the MK4. This is such a bummer because I really liked the heartbeat on my first printer. I run it without the cover because the cover never sits correctly on the first one (with the LEDs).

The Loveboard is the worst distributing board design in the industry, anyway. They have so much space behind the extruder and could have used it to make access even more convenient, plus counterbalance the heavy front sitting on those skinny 8mm shafts (now with the even more considerable leverage from the MK4S print fan), but... 🤷‍♂️
