No Audible Alert

During the final check and setup I noticed that I had no audible alert.   The volume is set to "High" , Settings/User Interface/Sound Mode.

Can someone suggest a fix or Do I need a new part.  I sent an email to support 24 hours ago but haven't received a reply.

Hi Bill,
you are best using the chat feature, rather than email, to contact Prusa Support!

Thanks Joan,

I've tried the chat function numerous times but it never starts a session.  I'm using Firefox as a browser. I'm logged in before I click on Chat.

That's why I tried the email route.  When that didn't work I posted on the forum. It's probably a problem with a board or component.  Hopefully someone from support will notice the post and respond.

Regards ... Bill ion Idaho

Oh dear, it's a shame chat won't work for you, do you have any pop up blocking software running, that may be preventing access,

I usually use Brave Browser, but on some sites the pop up blocking, prevents access to some features, so I use Google chrome, instead.

do you have another browse that you can try?

regards Joan

Hi Joan,

I have Microsoft edge.  It doesn't seem to work very well.   I could download a different browser.  Seems to me it would be easier if someone at Prusa  would check the email occasionally.  :0)

As a side bar.   It was easier for this old guy, now pushing 80, to build the printer than it is to get a hold of tech support.  I'll wait and see if they respond back.  Adding another piece of software could further complicate the issue.

Regards ..... Bill

Cheers Bill.
I steer away from Microsoft Edge.
Firefox used to be my employers choice of browser, but I generally prefer Brave, because it lets me watch Youtube videos, without adverts. and similar things...

Hope I am still going strong at 80... 12 years to go!

regards Joan

Happy Printing!

You might consider having someone else listen to make sure that they don't hear the printer beeping too.

I have some high frequency hearing loss and can't hear the beeps from the MK4 at all.  It seems the been on the MK4 is a bit higher frequency than the MK3.

My first indication that it was beeping was when my wife told me about it:   "Stop the printer from beeping or it is going into the bin."

Thanks Joan,

It'll be interesting to see how long it takes Tech Support to respond.

I wasn't  implying anything about your troubleshooting skills.

I am sorry you took it that way.

Just trying to help and let you know my experience.

RE:

I to have the same problem, the beep is so feint I have to put my ear next to the display to hear it, the volume doesn't change between all the settings except for silent when there is nothing. I contacted support last night and reported the issue, I provided a video with my phone next to the display only to be told that it was normal. What is the point of an alert beep if  it can't be heard, the beep on my MK3 can be heard in the adjacent rooms.  The following is a link to the video .

Are other people having this issue or is the volume on your MK4 normal ie you can hear it from a couple of metres away

Same issue with my printer. I wonder if it is hardware or firmware related. (bad beeper batch during production?)

RE:

That is 3 people so far are your symptoms the same as mine - You can hear a very feint beep on every option but silent and the volume doesn't change between different options?

How long have you had your printer, mine arrived last week and I finished assembling it a couple of days ago. Also have you raised an issue with online support?

RE: No Audible Alert

This is how the sound should work I found the doco for the Mini and Mini+ I am assuming it is the same for the MK4 as the options are the same:

The Original Prusa MINI/MINI+ introduces 4 levels of acoustic signalization - Loud, Once, Silent and Assist. You are able to choose between each level in the printer's menu Settings -> Sound Mode. You can also change the sound settings during the print in the Tune Menu.

For the use of all the sound features, make sure you have the latest firmware for the MINI & MINI+.

Level description Loud - printer uses acoustic signalization to notify the users of a failure, filament change during a print, or if confirmation is needed Once - this level is similar to Loud, but all beeps are played only once Silent - most of the beeps are muted, the user is informed only in case of a serious error Assist - a mode for visually impaired users, the printer plays a different sound while scrolling through the menu, and at the end of the menu.

It is also possible to change the sound volume. The range is 0-11 and the default value is 5. If the sound is Loud but the volume is at 0, no sound will be played.

If the printer presents an error, the printer will play a sound in a loop until the knob is clicked. This sound will be played independently of your sound settings and volume.

Looks like I'm not the only one.  Finally had a response from Prusa support.  They asked for a photo of the back of the display board. That was a few days ago.  Nothing since.

Good Morning Sken,

You indicated that there may be a way to change the volume.

"It is also possible to change the sound volume. The range is 0-11 and the default value is 5. If the sound is Loud but the volume is at 0, no sound will be played."

I can't find any adjustment available.  Have you been able to find a way to accomplish that on a Mark 4?

RE: No Audible Alert

Hi Bill, I'm afraid I haven't.  That information I found relates to the mini although the menu options are exactly the Same. Maybe they forgot to add the code for the MK4.

I am in Australia where it is night time so I will contact the online support again tomorrow to see if I can get any further with them, if I do I will post it. If you get any more info please let me know.

Cheers

RE: No Audible Alert

Good Morning,

Sken indicated here is a way, on other Prusa printers, to set the volume level as well as the basic 4 behaviors.   I can't find anything relating to the Mark 4 describing how or where to access that function.

RE: No Audible Alert

I have just spent an hour with online support and the short answer is that all MK4 printers have very low volume on the alert/alarm beep mechanism and that at the moment there is nothing that they can do about it. I also highlighted that this being the case it was a safety issue as the beep is there to tell the user that there is a problem with the printer or the printer needs attention.

Regards Sean
