RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time
I have exactly the same problem. I own a MK4 from a kit. After assembling everything seemed to work. Today I started my first longer print which went for 2 hours. Even during the print the display started flickering. I immediately thought of a loose connection of the cables. So I carefully removed all the cables and reinserted them, to no avail! The problem still exists, even with the new 5 Alpha firmware. You spend so much money on this printer and then something like this. My conscience somehow tells me that I should have chosen a printer from another manufacturer...
RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time
I have now done everything to get the display working again: I have checked the connections, rotated the cable, taken the display out of the case again, checked the orange ribbon cables, separated the display cable and made sure that it does not come into contact with other cables. All of this did not help. After the boot process, which is shown smoothly on the display, the image disappears directly and I can no longer operate the printer. Very frustrating. I have been dealing with support for 2 hours looking for the error. End of the story: I get a new display and a new cable. I hope very much that this is then peace and everything works.

I had a similar experience with both the LCD , LCD troubleshooting and support. I will get a new lcd, cable and printed part tomorrow. It will be interesting to compare both parts as it may explain a few thing. Did you try like me to turn on your printer, leave it on for a while like 20min and then reset it and see if the screen works okay. Because this is the case for me which looks like a warming phase. This warming phase is probably enough for some parts to dilate enough or electronic to stabilize so the screen works okay.
RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time
I'm still waiting on getting my new LCD so i tried some ferrite cores on the stepper motor cables.
I seams to work, i added 1 on each cable to the stepper motor and now i have printed for around 20-25 hours where the screen only went out 1 time.
Before the screen when out short time after the print started if it even work on start op.
But now the LCD seams to be alot more stable, so maybe the ferrite cores do something or for some reason the LCD just start working better out of the blue.
I only added them to the stepper motor cable because they fit and have them laying around so i wanted to try them out.
I have now order some flat ferrite core to added to the LCD cable and see if this also will help or not.
RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time
Same for me, the LCD has been working for several days now. I suspect there are quality issues with revision B of the LCD
Update from me: They sent me a new screen (Revision A, before I had B) and it works. No more problems. So no electrical or whatever stuff. 🙂
RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time
Same here, received version A. I had version B. It is also worth noting that the printed cover and parts have been revised as well E4. It seems the difference in the 3D part only relies on the grounding for the board. No issues so far but I only installed it... yesterday.

I got the new LCD and removed all the ferrite cores i added to the stepper motor cables.
The new LCD have been working without problem for around 30-40 hours of printing, so there must be a defect or something on the old one.
Just happy the screen is working now 😀
RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time
I received exactly the same LCD display. It was still in an LCD case for a Prusa XL printer. It was also included a new LCD housing for a MK4. After the conversion, everything works fine so far. I sincerely hope that it stays that way.
RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time
Update for my case. I contacted support, and after some troubleshooting, I was sent another screen. Like others, I got a type A LCD as a replacement for my type B. Also like others, this immediately fixed my problem! I'm very pleased that Prusa was able to fix it. Thanks!
RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time
After more than ~5 days of printing time, I ran into the same issue. The screen goes black after some time, but may turn back on after some minutes. There is no flickering or any wrong colors, it's just on or off. I contacted the support and they will send me a new LCD.
But in the meantime, I played around with some settings and found out that the problem disappears if I turn the RGB leds off in the user interface settings. Can somebody else try this out? It would be interesting to know if that workaround works for somebody else too.
RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time
I received new screen today. Thanks a lot to Marcin from Prusa support for his help.
After having bad weeks / months with old screen , it looks like the new one solved the problem 🙂

RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time
Finished my My Mk4 build yesterday and have this issue. I was talking with Tech support for a while and they had me re-flash the firmware, but it did not fix the issue. They are planning to send me a new ribbon cable and display.
After getting off the chat window with tech support I made a discovery. If I had the Prusa Supplied 16MB USB stick unplugged, the screen would work properly, there would be no flickering , and no screen going completely black. I decided to use a 32MB stick from Sandisk to see if it would make any difference. The printer is in the middle of a 14 hour print and so far it has not had a display problem one time. I believe the issue is with the USB stick provided by Prusa, and not a problem with cables, screens, or connections. I don't know what the problem is with the usb stick provided by Prusa, but it is what is causing my screen issues I believe. I have not canceled the shipment of the cable and screen as I want to be 100% sure the issue is with the USB stick and not something else. Switching USB stick was like night and day. While printing the screen that displays the image from Prusa Slicer gets updated regularly showing the progress of the print. It almost seems like a power draw issue when the supplied USB stick is inserted into the USB slot.
RE:
Unfortunately the problem occurred again.
I replaced lcd and cable.
I really don't know what to do.

Hello
Your MK4 is connected to an ethernet cable or wifi ? I notice you have the black screen just after the wifi icon

Wifi. Do you think it may cause boot issue?
I can try it with ethernet cable too.
RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time
I'll not let the wifi enabled 😉 during your test
RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time
Not sure if you saw my post or not, but I have the issue, but if I don't use the ADATA UV250 16mb memory stick, and use a samdata 32mb stick I don't have the issue.
The samdata is rated at 18mb per second. Adata is rated at 20mb per second. I don't know why my ADATA stick causes the issue, but maybe you could try a different memory stick.
RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time
Hi Brian,
Yes. I saw your post. I did a few tests with printer boot up without usb stick. Printer boot up perfect. No black screen issues.
I am starting to be concerned about provided ADATA usb stick.

RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time
I read a post where a user had better success if they turned off the LED's at the bottom of the screen. I am wondering if the A-Data usb stick has a slightly higher current draw than some other memory sticks, and it is display power issue. The display gets its power through the ribbon cable. I am going to test turning off the LED's and put the A-Data USB memory back into my Mk4 to see if my machine works fine in that configuration. If it does work then the display may not be getting enough power through the ribbon cable to power everything at the same time.
RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time
Ok.
After a few tests, I found it doesn't related to provided USB stick.
With or without stick it can boot normally ten times then come this:
Very weird.
Prusa support think it might be some other component causing a small short.
They suggest to unplug everything from the Buddy board, leaving only the power cables and LCD connected, then see if the display will not turn black anymore. If yes, start reconnecting everything back one by one and check if after plugging one of the components back the problem will come back. If it will start going black again after you reconnect the Nextruder cable bunch, proceed with doing the same test and disconnecting the parts from the Loveboard - make sure to inspect all connections and connectors for any visible damage.
It is very hard to debug cause as I wrote, the printer can boot like ten times normally , then with black or partial screen.
