Consistent finger-print like defect

Hi, was wondering if anyone's observed this finger-print like defect before and might know possible causes - This basic cylinder is printed with the original MK4 0.4 Nozzle presets on the 0.05mm ultra detail setting.

Just printed this using the latest firmware and Prusa Slicer. Maybe a month ago it was printing at this resolution with perfectly smooth outer layers - I'm printing in a Prusa Enclosure with the filament in an external drybox connected with a bowden tube. The hydrometer in the drybox is reading 20% RH. The printer was assembled 2 months ago and has less than 30 hours on it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Forgot to add this other example - same finger print-like pattern on this figurine printed with the same settings.

What material? PLA? Is the door of your enclosure closed? I've seen artifacts with the door closed and only close it for ASA, PC etc.

Yes, doors closed, material is PLA. I'll try the cylinder print again now with them open and get back to you.

Appreciate the suggestion, a minor improvement was observed (New print on left).
I suppose I should reprint with the fan speeds cranked if allowing more airflow is providing an improvement?

maybe try slowing down? also why are you printing at such a fine layer height?

imo, you could easily go to a 0.1 mm layer height and cut printing speed in half for the same printing time to probably get better results.

Good observation. The cylinder should print perfectly fine with 0.3mm layer height, even the figure I would print with 0.2mm and not expect any meaningful difference in quality. Having said that, I don't think that explains the issue. For the cylinder I was also wondering about minimum layer height but that shouldn't be an issue with the figurine. Something like this I'd print with default 0.2mm quality settings and expect to come out perfectly.

I suppose I should reprint with the fan speeds cranked

? With Generic PLA settings or variants thereof, fan speed should be at 100% already.

I'm using the highest detail settings because of how small and detailed this figurine is. Granted I have yet to try printing it with a larger layer height, I just figured with all the strands of hair and even the tiny fingers, I'd need 0.05mm to see the eyelashes and fingernails at this size.

Another reason was that the prusa slicer was crashing because I believe some of the walls were too thin for the Arachne perimeter generator settings to properly generate all the outer perimeters - I had to play with the minimum perimeter width and the perimeter transitioning filter margin to prevent it from crashing and the larger the layer height I selected, the more holes appeared in the rendered model.

The far left one was printed with 0.1mm and halved all the perimeter speeds - a definite improvement!

You're right Fuchsr, the generic PLA fan settings are already set to max.

personally, i would print the cylinders using the "0.2mm structural" preset for the MK4 (this preset is for the printer preset that uses input shaping)

you can play with the number of perimeters / infill density if you need

This reminds me a little of a similar problem I had with Silk PLA, where the problem was that the nozzle was too close to what it was printing (z-offset too low). Maybe your issue is related, seeing as the artifacts are similar and the problem was alleviated when increasing the layer height.
