Blobs and scorch marks on otherwise perfect first few layers

Hi there,

I'm running a Mk4 with the firmware as of 5.11.25.

Prusament transparent blue PETG

270 deg nozzle

90 deg bed

.2 layer height

Well dried filament

100% infill (I'm trying to make sure the layers stick really well)

The print before this one failed due to late layer offset due to (I suspect) filament blobs around the nozzle. I cleaned those up, and also looked inside the extruder gears to make sure nothing was amiss inside there. Didn't see anything, so cleaned the bed,  and started a new print.

About 1/3 of the way through the 2nd layer, I noticed 1 blob, and 2 scorch marks on the print itself (see attached photo). I searched around a bit to see if I could see any similar reports, but nothing came up immediately.

Can anyone fill me in on what might be causing this?

thx!

I figured it out. I had completely forgotten that I had installed a V6 nozzle adaptor on this unit about a month ago. I guess I didn't tighten it enough against itself, and it had been leaking inside the heat block 🙁 Swapped for a new one, and I was off to the races.

thx!

When you assembled your nozzle assembly with the V6 adapter and a regular V6 nozzle, did you hot-torque it like you would on a regular V6 hot-end? If not, that might have been the root cause of your issue (or might be a future issue).
