Weird pattern on first layer

I keep getting this weird pattern on the first layer I cannot figure out why. I bought another sheet same issue. I calibrated and oiled bearings. I also changed the nozzle. I used new PLA fillaments. They are from prusa. No idea any more what to test. Any suggestions?

Best Answer by UjinDesign:

I have the same problem except with another filament. It has nothing to do with the print sheets.

It looks like you're printing Prusament PLA Pearl White. That filament expands radially (and contracts length-wise) significantly when it leaves the nozzle, much more so than "normal" PLA and PETG filaments. This can be seen quite clearly when you're unloading the filament. The filament I have with the same problem is also a PLA Silk filament (i.e. the same "type" as the Pearl White) which also expands and contracts in the same way.

I never managed to solve the issue, but it seems like it has something to do with a combination of first-layer-height and possibly extrusion multiplier or extrusion width. I think the issue is that the since this type of filament expands when it's printed, and the first layer is so tightly packed, it has no place to expand to so it instead creates these waves to have somewhere to expand to (but that's just a theory of mine). If you search for the words "waves" "wavy" and similar you'll find plenty of info on this issue online.

PS: Feel free to leave a comment on this thread saying what solved it.

Recalibrate your first layer. Waves are a sign for nozzle being too low.

Will try again first layer cal although I did do it recently. The second answer actually makes sense. Thank you for your help.

Looks to me like the nozzle is too close to the bed.

IDK... with this pattern I'd put my money on low nozzle every day.

RE: Weird pattern on first layer

I agree with the Z offset being too low. That said, UjinDesign has a point about the peculiar behavior of Prusament Pearl white.  I've printed three different Prusament PLA blend colors (Pearl white, Ohmygold and Royal blue). All of them are significantly more brittle than regular Prusament PLA or any other brand I ever used, Ohmygold being the worst offender in this regard. Besides, Prusament blend has a tendency to warp, not as much as PETG or ASA but more than normal PLA. For instance, flat large squarish models printed with regular PLA from Prusa, Fillamentum or Polymaker don't warp a bit. If I use Prusament PLA blend, some hours after the print is finished, I notice a slight warp when checking the model against a flat surface. In the end I decided to stop purchasing Prusament PLA blend filaments. It's a pity, because some of these colors are really nice.
