Hotend selftest failed after MK3s to MK3.5s upgrade, but printer works fine.

After upgrading from MK3s to MK3.5S during the heater selftest the nozzle heating fails after heating up from 25 degrees to 170 degrees in about 55 seconds. no matter whether the nozzle sock is installed and acitvated / not installed and deactivated. The selftest proposes to correct possibly wrong settings of printertype, nozzle, sock installed, extrudertype... I have checked cables and connectors, seem to be ok. Stock hardware, no mods. Firmware up to date.

I can print with fine with PLA and PETG (the only types of filament I use). Every print comes out as expected, and the temps of 215 and 230 degrees Celsius are reached in seconds and shown properly on the display.

Any guesses?

Good morning Tbjorna.

I had a chat with support and the technician told me, that I will receive a new hotend for my MK3.5s (the upgrade kit still falls under warranty).

I have a sock on my hotend and when I remove it before the selftest it seems that it‘s just about to pass. But fails anyway. If you have a sock on your hotend remove it for a run.

Qapla‘

Hello indubioproretro,

Thanks a lot for following up. After reading the other forums here I discovered that the default setting on the buddy board seems to be having a sock on the hotend. I changed the setting to false and the initial test has now completed successfully. Everything seems to be good so far.

Glad I could help. That issue nearly drove me insane, but this solution sadly isn't working for me. Soooooo - I'm waiting for the spare part...

Have a good time!

On mine that did no have a sock by default it passes, only complains because my part cooling fan has more RPM...  for it to pass has to connect my original fan... other thing that is drivong me crasy is not having the thermal model calibration available like in the MK3s+...

please tell me i am not getting insane... even if i try to make it by pronterface can only get it to run if the fan is off... if run with fan on... the temp does not go to what is expected...

Looking to change the RPM max for the partcooling fan on the source code ( hard to find where that is, as it uses a heavilly modified marlin base) and add a PID autotune menu, with save option ( did it on pronterface, did a m500 but not saved the settings ).

Best Regards.
