Do you think hiding prerelease printfiles behind a paywall such as patreon is ok? Poll is created on Apr 12, 2023

Hey fellow forum dwellers,

Today I got notified, that my model got suspended without any reason at all. 😫

Maybe you came across my K1 ITX Case model which recently reached 200 downloads.

I would like to know what happened, for example what Terms and Conditions i have broken

And what my next steps are for the reupload of the Project files.

I have a hunch that either:

  • It has to be the advertisement of Kofi and Patreon Memberships in the Description part is prohibited,
    • e.g. hiding prereleased printfiles of remixes behind Paywalls?
  • Or the missing mentions, that affiliate links are used?

Anyway I wish that there were clearly stated guidelines for Kofi, Printables & co.

Will my model get deleted again if i repost it?

Best Answer by Kibo:

Fellow forum dwellers we meet again,

After my model on printables got suspended by staff yesterday afternoon,

I got an answer from the printables mods about the current guidelines of commerce on the plattform.

I conclude(take it with a spoon of salt! 😘 ):

As long you have a complete product that is fully functional accessible on printables.com,

you may present and advertise additional parts or accessories through links in the Model description!

Example:

Your model is named "Box with Lid" , your printables files should contain both Box and Lid.

You can not hide the Lid required for the model to function behind a paywall(Ko-Fi or similar),

but you can present your audience with an additional option "Lid-with-ribbon" through a link to a third-party-website.

Breaking the Guidelines:

What is strictly against the Guidelines are "empty" model-pages,

where you have all the descriptions for the model,

but missing or uncomplete printable files needed for the model to function correctly as described.

My suspension Case:

I posted a Remix of my original model K1 ITX Case with a mockup-assembly,

instead of its printfiles of the model described in  the Discription and Cover-Photo,

hiding the required printfiles behind a patreon/ Kofi-Shop Paywall.

How to monetize without breaking the Guidelines

Make it clear which parts or what features are free / included in the printables files!

Split the additional parts you want to set up for purchase(through a third-party-websites) into a sperate Section/paragraph in the Description.

Dont create a seperate product page on printables just to sell the advertised product!

I am open for any questions or constructive criticism!

Thanks for the professionalism of the printables Team!

RE: Your model was deleted by an administrator.

If your model was suspended, it is possible that it violated one or more of the platform's terms of service or community guidelines. These could include things like intellectual property violations, inappropriate or offensive content, or other violations of the platform's rules.

Thanks for sharing! Makes a ton of sense. Keeps Printables from becoming a (free) advertising venue for paid models.
