Why does this Buddy3D camera require a WiFi connectivity?

Such waste. Why not simply have a usb cable to the printer so they talk directly and use the printer's wired connection to connect outside, or, if that gives too much trouble, why can't the camera have its own wired LAN connection?  The camera needs to be connected to a power source anyway so it is not independent.  And it has to be close to the printer.

Now I would need to set up an access point specifically for the camera and deal with all the security issues connected with that.

Sorry Prusa. Baaaad choic, or can I configure the unused WiFi module of the printer as a hotspot?

Why I hear what you're saying I would humbly suggest that these days probably more people have wifi than wired connections, so adding another wifi device is not a big deal.

You seem to miss the point here. Printer has wired connection facility not for nothing. LAN is rugged, safe and simple. Why require a separate wireless connection for a thing that should have been a part of the printer in the first place.

And an additional video stream using the network hardware of the xBuddy mainboard would probably not work wonders for the already much lamented transfer rates ... 🙂

The point is the camera is entirely separate from the printer, there is no interaction between the printer and the camera. The camera just sends the image to the connect server which then serves it.

If the camera and the printer are not talking to each other the case would be even worse. This would then mean you cannot control the camera via gcodes without convoluted grafting.

The long awaited dedicated Prusa camera would not do anything more than the makeshift 'old cellphone' solution.

SIGH!!!!!
