Why cant i upgrade a 3.5 to a 3.9 or 4

As prusa says it has 3.5, 3.9, 4 upgrade kits available for the MK3s+ why cant the do a kit for the 3.5.

Surly all you have to do is get a 3.9 or Mk4 Upgrade kit and remove the mk3.5 parts, so end up with a 3.5 upgrade kit and a 3.5 to 3.9 or 4 upgrade kit.

Contacted customer support and its a firm no, cant be done.

they even suggested i could send my 3.5 kit back and buy a 3.9. Not a lot of help as its fitted and running.

Needed a machine that would run with MMU3 hence the 3.5, didn't think it would be a problem to update at a later stage.

Very disappointed with prusa. Easy fix except jobs worth attitude

Yes it does it also works great with the mk 3.5, 3.9 and mk4. However the point i am making was the first first printer with a new buddy board and mmu3 was the MK 3.5. The mk 3.9 and mk 4 came along later. having built a mk 4 from a kit and converted a mk 3s+ to a MK3.5 I didn't expect it to be a dead end. Prusa has always been known for its upgrades to the latest printer. However it seems that the 3.5 is a dead end. The stupid part is the kit to upgrade it to a ML3.9 or a MK 4 is already there if I buy a buy a mk3s+ upgrade kit and dont use all the bits needed to upgrade to a mk 3.5. All i have asked them to do is sell me the difference between the two. I would not have thought this was difficult and doesn't leave them anything they cant sell.

I'm in the same boat. Just realized that this isn't possible or easy. I see that they sell the parts for the next extruder but I just want the entire assembly.

Pretty bummed out on this.

In the same vein, we should reconsider the evaluation attitude of the staff at the forum. Error not corrected

RE:

The Mk3.5 and Mk3.9 pathways were offered to enable the upgrade of a mk3S or Mk3S+ to use the new 32bit processor,

the pathway was described within the upgrade packages when offered

there was also an option to upgrade to Mk4 capability from mk3s or mk3s+   again the pathway was described in the offer. however the upgrade did not include the Mk4 Main Frame, or the Mk4 Y axis platform,    instead the mk3 versions were retained because they were equivalent to the mk4 versions but cut from flat stock.

If your ultimate desire is to have a True Mk4. then you need to buy a Mk4. no upgrades will convert a mk3, totally to a mk4.  that option would be uneconomical.

I Would guess that prusa will not make a specific upgrade kit, to move between mk3.5, mk3.9 and mk4.

As far as I am aware  the difference between the mk3.9 and mk4 is the X and Y Motors, the Main printer frame and the Y axis platform
looking at the spares page, the X and Y motors for the mk4 and the mainframe for the Mk4 are available to purchase, I don't see a Y axis platform option.
I believe the Y axis platform differences between the Mk3 series printers and the mk4, are cosmetic. so no real need to change it out.

if you desperately want to move from Mk3.5 to Mk3.9 or Mk4 upgrade, then the only current options I see are the upgrades intended to move from Mk3, S, +
that were available at the same time as the mk3.5 upgrade it's self
these are
https://www.prusa3d.com/en/product/original-prusa-i3-mk3-s-to-mk3-9-upgrade-kit-4/
Or
https://www.prusa3d.com/en/product/original-prusa-i3-mk3-s-to-mk4-upgrade-kit-3/

unfortunately for someone who has already upgraded to mk3.5, both of these kits will also provide spare XBuddy controllers.

I Don't see a full nextruder in the spares list.     this may change over time, but currently not a spare parts option

RE: Why cant i upgrade a 3.5 to a 3.9 or 4

@joantabb: Sorry, you don't tell anything new....

The previous Prusa practice was to allow an update from each device version to the next, up to the current generation (regardless of whether this always makes economic sense).

This allowed customers to follow the development step by step. In line with this practice, many customers initially took advantage of the cheap update to MK3.5 with the idea of a later update from MK3.5 to MK 3.9 or MK4.

In my experience, and this is confirmed by many posts from other customers, the MK3.5 has proven to be a dead end. At the same time, it is clear that the MK3.5 itself is treated very poorly in the current firmware (confirmed older issues not resolved, lack of support from Octoprint) and has not been optimized for the MK3.5, but rather the MK4 routines have been "bent" in a makeshift manner. (Example: incorrect scanning of the print bed, etc., etc.).

The fact is that there are a large number of customers who are very unhappy with the update to MK3.5.

Prusa should open the way to the MK3.9/MK4 for these customers. It wouldn't take much effort to put together a Delta pack. The assembly instructions (on MK3.9/MK4) are already there. So why not!

Personally, I've drawn the conclusion and sold my MK3.5. Will the new one be an MK4? I'm still thinking about it!
