Unable to print from downloaded files
Hi all,
I'm new to 3D printing so go easy on me ! I can print from files downloaded from Thingiverse but I'm unable to print any files downloaded from Printables.
Any help greatly appreciated.

RE: Unable to print from downloaded files
What kind of files are you downloading from Printables?
RE: Unable to print from downloaded files
Hi,
I'm downloading STL files which are then sliced before trying to load them into the printer. When I choose the file I get a 'loading' message and then nothing happens.

RE: Unable to print from downloaded files
It shouldn’t matter which website you’re downloading STL files from something else is going on.
Which printer and slicer are you using?
Have you tried other STL files from Printables? Does the same thing happen?
Did you try reslicing the file?
Have you tried using a different usb flash drive?
Hope that helps, Good Luck!!
RE: Unable to print from downloaded files
Link to a file you can't get to slice? And yes, mentioning what slicer you're using would actually be useful 😇

RE: Unable to print from downloaded files
There was a PrusaConnect issue the other day. Gcode was uploading to PrusaConnect, but not fount from PrusaConnect to the printer. Seems to be resolved now, for me at least.
RE: Unable to print from downloaded files
Hi,
I'm using a Creality Ender 5 S1 printer. I've tried a couple of files downloaded from Printables and both won't print. I've also tried reslicing them with no luck. I'm using the same USB drive for both the Printables and Thingiverse files so I don't think it's the USB drive as the files from Thingiverse print fine.
RE: Unable to print from downloaded files
Hi,
This is one of the files I tried printing...

I'm using Cura slicer - not sure if this makes any difference to using PrusaSlicer ?
RE: Unable to print from downloaded files
the cura gcode would have been more helpful, as it represents the print instructions. (needs to be zipped)

RE: Unable to print from downloaded files
I downloaded the file and had no issues loading it into Cura or Prusaslicer, so this seems more related to your specific system.

Hi Joan,
I have attached a zip file of the g code for the file that won't print - sliced in Cura.

RE: Unable to print from downloaded files
Hi Joan,
The file is currently 'Awaiting Moderation' - presumably to check for any virus etc. ?
I've tried slicing using PrusaSlicer having set all the paraneters for the printer and filament etc. but still no joy.

RE: Unable to print from downloaded files
i looked in the file which was awaiting moderation, and could not see the zipfile!

RE: Unable to print from downloaded files
Hi Joan,
Not sure what happened to the Zip file as I sent it as an attachment.
I'll try again.

RE: Unable to print from downloaded files
How many times, and I think thousands of times, has it been said here that the file must be packed as *.zip! And you send it as *.7z and then wonder!
RE: Unable to print from downloaded files
.7z is a type of zip file. You can right click and download it and then unzip it fine. It does contain a gcode file sliced by Cura.
I'll leave the analysis of the gcode file to Joan but you have a file sliced in Cura that doesn't print of your Creality machine ? Surely this is a question for the Cura forums or Creality forums ? I'll just hope Joan can help you out.
If you can download the stl, load it into your slicer (Cura) and it doesn't complain about any model errors and slices and produces gcode output then I'm not sure how much help a prusa centric forum will be.
If the stl you downloaded doesn't slice in Prusa Slicer then yeah we can look at a saved project file at all your settings and try and figure it out. Plenty of people here with experience in that.

O.K. You're right.
RE: Unable to print from downloaded files
Hi Graham,
does this test file work?

RE: Unable to print from downloaded files
Hi,
The reason for posting the question on this forum rather than a Cura or Creality forum is because I can download STL files from both websites and use either Cura or PrusaSlicer and all files print fine. However, when I downloaded a couple of files from Printables and tried both Cura and PrusaSlicer, when I then loaded the code the files wouldn't print - quite odd.
