RE: UK orders

I was grateful that the orders were opened back up, until I saw that I have to pay £27 for shipping...Something in my body just tells me not to do it.

RE: UK orders

Mine was £24 for shipping for a whole printer and 1kg of filament, doesn't sound too bad.

RE: UK orders

Useful info here: https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/orders-to-the-uk_205772
Orders under £135 ex VAT, Prusa charge the VAT on the site and hand to UK gov. Over that, Prusa won't charge the VAT but the buyer pays the VAT + duty + surcharge to the shipping company before they deliver to the door.

(Edit: Northern Ireland customers select "United Kingdom - Northern Ireland" when ordering, they get charged VAT and treated like EU orders).

I asked the online chat to see what Export codes are used on items. It is the following, apparently:

All printers and upgrades (including MMU) 84778099 (0% import duty, 20% VAT + carrier surcharge)
Spare parts 84779080 (0% import duty, 20% VAT + carrier surcharge)
Curing Washing Station 8543709099 (says 2% from "third countries" but 0% for EU, 0% import duty, 20% VAT = carrier surcharge)
Filaments 39169090 (says 6% from "third countries" but 0% for EU, 20% VAT + carrier surcharge)
Resins 39073000 (says 6% from "third countries" but 0% for EU, 20% VAT + carrier surcharge)
(My thoughts on each export code above in italics). So assuming the correct codes get put on the customs declaration by Prusa and DHL are not being stupid, there should not be any duty to be paid, just VAT + surcharge.

For info: https://www.trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/sections
Given that DHL do the shipping from Prusa to the UK at the moment:
https://mydhl.express.dhl/gb/en/help-and-support/customs-clearance-advice/duties-and-taxes.html#/receiving_shipments

Look out for a £11 carrier surcharge if the VAT amount is less than £440 or 2.5% of the VAT value as a surcharge if over.

I've placed an order for an upgrade kit, spares and filament. Should be interesting to see what happens and how DHL handle it 😀

RE: UK orders

Odd that I would get charged VAT for a Mk3s+ then? Pretty sure it should be much less than £954 without vat?

@ashtoruin

I think the site has a glitch with it right now. Check the invoice if you have already paid and raise it with the online chat and hopefully you get the VAT refunded.

RE: UK orders

So how much will a Prusa kit cost us with all the fees from customs, VAT and currier fees etc?

I just double checked and they billed me the correct price, the invoice says VAT included but the price is without VAT (probably they have to adapt the billing generation system).

Check your address, I just tried getting a Mk3S  and it correctly says about £800 at checkout.

RE: UK orders

Mk3s+ £577.69

Shipping £23.14

Total £600.83

So will I pay tax on the £577.69 or the £600.83 ?

Just read it on DHL, it will be on the £600.83, so we are even paying full VAT on the shipping.

So cost will be £600.83  + 20 % VAT = £120.17 + £11 carrier surcharge

Total= £732

Its the £11 that really gets me, robbing b.......

Non of this is PRUSA's fault in any way, lets make that clear. 😀

Normal people believe that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain’t broke, it doesn’t have enough features yet.

RE: UK orders

I just needed some spares for my MK3S stripdown, renovation and MK3S+ rebuild. My heatbed cable has developed a tiny crack in the  plastic sheath (not allowing any wires to touch but I don't like it sitting like that) and I even with the appropriate jigs I don't trust my ability to trim the hotend PTFE tube to the new correct length and chamfer it properly so I've got a couple of those. Then I added three reels of filament to get close to but not exceed £135 (including some PC blend for shroud printing) because I don't want to get double-charged for VAT and if I'm now paying additional flat-rate costs on the delivery I want to get my money's worth 🙂

Also, some "rechargeable" silica gel packets from Amazon to keep in the PC blend bag.

... because I don't want to get double-charged for VAT ...

You will only pay the VAT once, under £135 you pay Prusa the VAT, over £135, Prusa zero rate it and you pay the VAT to the courier.

Been in need of some prusament for a few weeks now. Don’t think I will ordering again until the price of shipping comes down. £27 for shipping 4 spools.

I also get my filament from 3d jake and it’s free delivery on orders over £42.90 from Austria right next door to Czech Republic.

Hi Adam, have you tried 3DQF in england?
https://www.3dqf.co.uk/
Just looked, and they are short on stock...    wonder if this is the world shortage of filament!

RE: UK orders

What's the issue with filament sortage? Does anyone know why Prusa is having half its PLA filaments out of stock for many months already? Does anyone know when they are going to be able to restock their PLA assortment again?

@thejiral

there are possibly two issues,
with the Covid restrictions around the world, more people are having more time to print 3D models, so demand has gone up, and there is a reported shortage of raw materials

Prusa have a limited number of Filament production lines and they will be doing their best to supply demand.

Erevy time they change colour or material, there will be reduced capacity, so it is likely that they are concentrating on the most popular products.

This may also be the reason that they have launched a new product line (PVB Filament)
this may give them access to a new material resource.

Pure conjecture on my part...

Zaribou are UK based, which may be a better option as EU-UK transport not an issue! where as Caribou are Europe based...

I looked at the site - but it seems broken when you actually try configuring a printer (none of the options appear and seeing errors in developer console on several browsers) and won't let you add it to basket - did try contacting them but no response.

I ordered an i3 kit so stopped looking - just the wait

@adam_pres

Unfortauntely now that the UK is a third country we no longer benefit from affordable courier services like our EU counterparts. For items under £135 Prusa Research pay the duties and customs with DDP. The cost of filing this paperwork is typically around £15-20 for those in third countries typically sending stuff to the EU so I can certainly see why the delivery is now costing more. I wonder if the firm in Austria is sending the items duty unpaid. in that case you are responsible for any VAT and duties when the item arrives which will incur additonal fees.

RE: UK orders

MAybe just me, but I don't feel £23 is a high amount to ship an 11kg box across Europe.

Maybe the price is unproportionally high for smaller orders, but for printers, it feels reasonable to me.

Been in need of some prusament for a few weeks now. Don’t think I will ordering again until the price of shipping comes down. £27 for shipping 4 spools.

There are always breakpoints in the shipping prices, 3 would be £16.27, at 4 it goes up to £27.82 but it stays there for 5, 6 ...

Order more or less if you want cheaper shipping per spool.

RE: UK orders

So that’s the same cost as my £23. As 27 is 23 +VAT. Agreed, it’s reasonable for a printer, not so for some filament.
