RE: The Satin Sheet Thread

I'm having a hard time removing the fingerprints.

With smooth sheet just a little water and dish soap and then wipe with a clean cloth did the trick, but not with satin.

Do I need to dump the sheet in the soapy water and scrub?

Seems to show the prints having a matt  finish, I just wash with warm washing up liquid using a nylon washing up brush the same as do for textured. Probably doesn’t matter if the finger marks aren’t removed?

RE: The Satin Sheet Thread

to all you good folk - how does this sheet deal with Nylon, PC or CF blends

[As an aside but not wishing to derail the thread I bought a gecktek surface to try for these filaments but so far PETG still sticks too much requiring windex and still pulls the gecktek surface leaving marks on the PETG 1st layer]

thanks

@john-6

John,

I have used all three on one.  I only have two at this stage.  CF PETG and ABS stick well.  I would use Windex with the PETG.  PC and PC Blend stick a little on the heavy side.  I use a glue stick to promote release and adhesion.  I have had no issues with Nylon.

Geckotech is something that is easy to damage.  I do not print PETG on it because it has a tendency to fuse to it.

RE: The Satin Sheet Thread

just a question re: the big alert on the sticker for the satin sheet: "CLEAN ONLY WHEN COLD!" -- unless i've been missing something all along, that's new to me.   for the normal textured or smooth sheets, i routinely give them a mild spray and wipe with 91% alcohol, even when quite warm.  reading this here makes that sound like a very bad idea for... reasons?  i've only just gotten my satin sheet and have dialed it in with test prints, but haven't printed anything 'real' yet, but if having to wait to full cool down to remove prints and clean, it'll take a little discipline on my part to slow down from what i've usually done i guess.

anyway, does anyone have insight into this only clean when cold warning?

@linden-eric

They may be speaking of all cleaning, but I think they are referring to waiting to remove the prints until the plate is cool.

You could always contact support by chat and ask for clarification.

I did the footwork for you.  I was not entirely correct.  You should also not clean with alcohol while warm according to support.

RE: The Satin Sheet Thread

Well, this thread has been rather quiet, and I didn't read all of it, but here is my take.

I'm new to this, maybe 2 months with my printer.

I do PLA on the steel PEI only, and only PLA.  My steel sheet needs some serious serious scrubbing.  Residue marks all over it.  Works well enough, but looks like it was ridden hard and put away wet.  Soap and hot water with a blue scrubby is not enough.  Like I said, works well enough, but I am not overly impressed.

I did PETG on the textured once.  It didn't want to stick, after 5 minutes of effort.

Printing PETG on the Satin is easy-peasy.  My favorite combo.  You need to let the part & sheet cool down before removal, otherwise the part will stick a bit, and deform a bit during removal.  I might get another satin sheet just for quick swap purposes.

Cleaning?  Really?  Do you need to clean it at all?  I just do a quick wipe with a moist towel, sometimes.  After 4kg of PETG, my sheet has not seen soap and water, it has seen IPA maybe twice.  Quite pleased.

Really, really, liking the satin sheet & PETG.  YMMV.

@eric-e

You may be in the minority.  A lot of folks get over adhesion with PETG.

Prusa sold (not Priusament) PET-G, Prusament PET-G, Veracity PET-G.  Sticks like glue when hot, parts just fall off when cool.  Dreamy.

If you don't like your satin sheet, give it to me.

RE: The Satin Sheet Thread

I wish the Mini had a sheet profile called Satin, or had the option to remain the steel sheet profiles.

I love the satin sheet, most of my prints are PLA ot PETG, it seems to work so well, and prints come off really easily when cool.

RE: The Satin Sheet Thread

After some prints (some with PC, some with ASA) I noticed my Satin sheet is slightly dished and makes a wobbling noise if I hold it at its corners and move it.

Neither the PEI sheet nor the textured sheet are dished but completely flat. The satin sheet appears fine on the magnetic bed, but not when laid on a flat surface. It was not this way when I received it. It seems it happened because of bed temperature and the warmer it is the more dished it gets.

Anyone else having this effect or sould I just contact customer service and ask for exchange?

@sipyrice

I would say - if it is flat on the heatbed everything is ok. I would give a shi... how it is when it is not on the bed.

If your prints get well everything is ok. You have not bought an industrial precision machine - it is just a 3D-printer (including all parts)

Best regards, Clemens

A couple of questions about the Satin sheet?

I really like the textured sheet for PETG and will continue to use it for PETG regardless. I use the smooth sheet for PLA and it works very well but I do find that prints can leave marks and these marks can then appear on the bottom of subsequent prints. Occasionally, PLA sticks so well that the edges of prints can slightly damage the sheet as they come off (although I think that this damage does heal over time).

I am about to order some filament from Prusa again and I was thinking about picking up a Satin sheet at the same time. I would appreciate some views on the following two points to help me decide:

(1) Is the satin sheet a little more hardy than the smooth sheet?

(2) Does PLA stick to the satin sheet as well as it does to the smooth sheet (mainly worried about corners of large prints warping up)?

Thanks in advance.

RE:-A couple of questions about the Satin sheet?

1. Not sure about "Hardy" but for me it doesn't suffer from the left behind imprints.

2. The satin sheet takes a bit more getting used to, and initially it seems to stick less, however I find that with regular dish soap and avoiding finger prints at all costs it works for PLA much like the textured sheet works for PETG. Let the prints cool and they just fall off.

I use the satin sheet for PLA, ABS, ASA, and it works very well. I still prefer to use the textured sheet for PETG & TPU.

I rarely use the smooth sheet now except maybe for small contact area parts that I don't want to add a brim to.

Others may find differently.

Satin sheets just work

Funny, the satin sheet just works for me, no issues whatsoever.
I didn’t have to get used to it, just adjusted level and it works a treat.

I have not had these issues either.

Hi, how durable is the satin sheet? Do they get scratched easily like the smooth PEI sheet? Don't want to have imprint traces from previous prints showing up at the bottom of the new prints.
