i swear by inland for pla (prusa pla settings). it has never really let me down. well once they changed a few of the colors on me...

amazon does seem ok. but I like inland better

The good news: I've had really good luck with orange, black and white PETG filmament from Hatchbox. The PRUSA settings for PETG worked with no alterations.

The bad new: Their supply chain is awful!! They have not had black available since November and were out of all colors for over a month. Amazon had most for awhile but they were down to white and orange for some time.

I have emailed them and the response is always "We expect it soon".

Try it and if you like it, get more while you can.

My local store has XYZ and Verbatim. I know Verbatim makes good DVD/CDs but pla?
Never heard of XYZ.

Where do you live if you dont mind me asking? cuz then the locals can give you better recommendations.
One more thing you need to care regarding the filaments, is the winding. Bad winding = tangled spool = failed prints.

Prusament PLA - Silver. What can I say, prints perfectly for PLA, really nice finish as well.

In the UK, I have tried Rigid.Ink black PETG, pretty good, with strong detailed parts, but you will need to play with the Slic3r settings a bit to get the best prints, but it is worth the time getting the settings right as this prints the best overhangs and bridges with good strength. Prints well at 0.2 and 0.15, but it is expensive.

Sunlu PETG - white, Not at all bad, a bit stringy and can vary a bit between reels (A bit more or less stringy), good price vs performance, prints well at 0.2.

Colorfab XT - Black This is a co-polyester, nearest product would be PETG. Produces some really strong prints, but not for the beginner as it shrinks some so causes curling, you will definitely need to adjust printing settings to get this to print successfully, and even then, overhangs just cant get them to print properly, but everything else is really good and strong. Expensive as it only comes on 750g rolls Prints well at 0.2, haven't quite got 0.15 settings right yet.

Sunlu PLA - Grey (Silver), can't fault it, prints well and good price, strings a bit more than Prusament but not too badly, Prints well at 0.2 and 0.15.

Technology Outlet PETG - Various colours, Prints well, not quite as good as Rigid.Ink, but damn close, it is a bit more translucent but leaves a nice glossy finish, strong parts, slightly more flexible than Rigid.Ink, can be troublesome with the filament sensor on the Mk3, and currently on Amazon, less than half the price of Rigid.Ink, If I could describe the difference it's like Rigid.Ink put more opaque filler into their filament. Prints at 0.2 and 0.15 but slightly worse than Rigid.Ink.

My current go to PETG filament is Technology Outlet since price vs performance can't be beaten, although I'm tending to print some printer parts with Rigid.Ink, there is very little in between the two except the price with one at £19.99 and the other at £42.95

Still waiting for Prusament PETG to be available on Amazon.co.uk

I'm from Bulgaria so the market is quite limited but still there online stores at least.

chocki, thanks for the extensive list. By 0.2 and 0.15 I assume you mean 200 and 150 micron.
Are the 100 and 50 only limited to prusament? I mean 50 seems an overkill time-wise though 100 looks pretty good, but that's because I want to make more character models at least for now.

I have had good results from Hatchbox PLA and PETG.

I am not happy with Makerbot ABS.

Pending testing: Esun PETG and PLA.

Inland (both PLA and PLA+) has done well for me so far. Great price and I have had zero print issues with it. I can't say I notice any difference between the regular PLA and their PLA+ though. I use the Prusa PLA profile when printing.

I also picked up a sample set of Amazon's filament. It's done well, but prints tend to have "hairs" that need to be cleaned up when using the Prusa PLA profile.

I also really like the Prusa Sliver PLA that came with the printer (and I also ordered a second roll), but for the price I'll stick to Inland for now.

I also ordered a roll of Prusa Black with the printer. On the prints that worked it had a very matte/chalky finish to the parts while no other PLA I've used so far has done that. About halk the roll printed just fine with no issues. The last print used up the last of the roll and failed rather spectacularly. Still not sure what happened with that print, but I reprinted with Inland PLA+ using the same gcode and had no issues.

Yest 0.2 and 0.15 is layer height using a 0.4mm nozzle, obviously printing at 0.15mm layer height results in better detail, but only if the filament lays down correctly at these thin layers.
It's more to do with stringing, as thinner layers and stringing don't seem to play together nicely, basically if you are getting excessive stringing, you won't get the detail at 0.15mm layer height, yet the print may be perfectly acceptable at 0.2mm layer height with the same filament.

This stuff is so consistent and I find I get strong prints which is good because I like to print structural parts.

I'm not about to pretend that I'm an expert on anything here, but I will say I have a micro center within reasonable distance and therefore all my filament has come from their standard stock which is mainly Inland. I haven't really had any issues with it so I'm pleased plus I was able to evaluate the colors in person. Also if you have a micro center or similar type of store you should go check it out they have a lot of neat things, mine had several 3d printers and brands in it and let me tell you I felt pretty good with my choice of the mk3 after seeing the price tags on the competition that they carried.

For UK
I use Filamentive, using the Prusa setting with the hot end temps a little lower. Never had a clog with them. They are a little limited on colours but have large drums available, 2.3Kg and bigger. Also a 30% discount for orders over £89(plus vat)

Also the filaments available from Aldi online are good. Just used Prusa PLA settings and they handle fast print speeds fine.

I have about 40 rolls of filament, all but 5 are eSun. Have never had one issue with that brand. I started with it because that is the brand that has the largest variety of colors and types on AMAZON. i have both PETG and PLA, with much of the PLA being PLA Pro (PLA+). i have also printed a few parts with eSun ePA (Nylon), also printed nicely. Their PLA Pro is my favorite of all. I also love the eSun spools! Best of any I have, and they can be taken apart with two screws, and they are beginning to offer refill packs of some of their filaments.

You were specifically not asking about prusament so I didn't chime in earlier, but my favorite so far (but I haven't tried much) is both prusament galaxy silver and galaxy black.

Yes, they are quite awesome. Perhaps I should have framed the question more as - which brand/s matches prusament and are there even better ones?
As a noob, don't want to risk an extruder jam so at least for the first few spools I'm prepared to pay a bit more:)

Has anyone tried AmazonBasics filament? The reviews on Amazon look pretty mixed. I don't want to accuse any reviews of being fake, but since they are selling the stuff on their own website, it makes me a tad suspicious.
