Refund for cancelled XL order

I pre-ordered the XL more than a year ago in March 2022 as a replacement for my now six-year old Prusa MK2S. I paid the USD199 deposit via PayPal.

Due to the long wait time, I cancelled the order on 2nd April 2023 - more than a month ago, expecting to get my refund within two working weeks.

I contacted Customer Service a month later (early May 2023) as I had not received my deposit. After an exchange of messages, it was determined that they could not refund the deposit via PayPal because it had been more than a year since the original transaction. I was asked to provide an IBAN for my bank account number. Bank accounts in North America do not have IBAN numbers, I replied. I have had no replies since.

I do not understand why Prusa cannot send me the refund via PayPal. After all, one can transfer funds via PayPal for any reason and it does not have to be associated with any past transaction.

Have any of you in North America had problems with getting refunds for your deposits?

Never had a refund issue. Just got two for canceled Mk4 upgrade orders when I realized I might as well just buy a brand new printer. 

But I also canceled in less than one year. I have no doubt that there's a PayPal rule that they can't technically refund anything after more then 12 months and that just starting a new transaction may cost Prusa extra fees. However, you'd think they can figure out a way to get you your money without jumping through hoops. 

i have a similar problem right now sending money from Germany to my US bank. In Europe it's all IBAN. I hit on two options. One is a wire transfer to your bank. The other is a transfer to a US bank that supports IBAN transaction. You may have to talk to your bank but I hope for you that Prusa can figure it out because talking to a bank is not something I wish upon anyone...

I am currently working on the same issue. Call PayPal customer service. They stated there is no reason why Prusa would be unable to issue the refund to PayPayl. Even if you have a different card.

Start the chat again on the Prusa site and ask to be referred to the accounting department. PayPal is even willing to have a conference call with them if they want to be difficult. 

So easy to order but now I'm having to work for my refund. Ridiculous.

Here is an update on my request for refund...

It's been 8 weeks since I requested the refund. I am in a slow, plodding interchange with Customer Serive. But they are very unresponsive and take a long time to reply.

So far...

1. Prusa claims that a refund via PayPal is not possible since it has been a year.

2. They asked for a IBAN number for my bank account. Not possible because bank accounts in North America do not use IBAN.

3. They asked for FIN, Transit number, account number for my bank account. I provided that. This was two weeks ago. No reply since.

Frustrating as heck. It feels like they are hoping you will go away. But I will keep this thread alive until I get the refund.
