PrusaSlicer Suggestion... current Z-Height to preview
I think it would be cool if PrusaSlicer could connect whichever printer is currently printing's "current Z-Height" from Connect and the Preview in the slicer so it would be like LIVE view.
What do you think?
RE: PrusaSlicer Suggestion... current Z-Height to preview
I'm afraid that would break the overall workflow and application logic in PrusaSlicer. The model and slice views are not connected to the "live" printer status in any way. You can continue to work on some other model in these views while the printer is doing its thing. Using them for a live status would add potential confusion and inconsistency, where those views can take on two very different functional modes.
Enhancing the print preview (which is shown directly on the printer's screen and in PrusaLink) with some indication of the current layer would be the better place to implement a live progress view, in my opinion.

Maybe, but why? What purpose would it serve other than being cool to look at? If one is looking for failed prints, a slicer preview isn't going to be any help (in which case a camera feed is a better solution).
RE: PrusaSlicer Suggestion... current Z-Height to preview
I'd vote for this, but for a different reason.
I don't need the slicer to get 'live' feedback from the printer - but what I would love is a section on the printer display/panel that told me it's current Z offset *and* layer number.
So many prints that failed mid-print and I'm guessing at what layer it stopped at, or measuring is slightly off... If the printer showed me what layer I paused/cancelled the print at, I could split the model and print only the top again and have a much higher chance of rescuing a failed print.

Not PrusaSlicer, but this information is visible w/ Octoprint...

Yeah i kinda miss using Octoprint.
