Prusament spool split

Ive printed quite a few rolls of Prusament, PETG, ASA and now PC blend and PC blend CF. I've never had this happen nor even had a roll come close to spiting (of any brand I've printed with).

I'm going to suggest a fix though, if the split happens in a way that allows you to recover the roll through the center, you might try printing one of the masters spools available out there and try sliding the remainder of the split roll onto it for use. Then possibly reevaluate whats going on with your spool feeder (the one the spools are spiting on).

No, never had a Prusament spool self-destruct.

In fact, Prusament spools are probably my favorite, mainly because there are holes all over, and there's always several in a convenient location to stick the filament end through.

The side pieces have raised ribs to grip the cardboard tube. If the side piece comes off  or feels loose (I've never had that happen) you need to make sure the ribs engage on a unused part of the cardboard tube.

As to why I can only image there is some sort of side force in your arrangement. As you use rollers on the rim, perhaps a couple of pieces of duck/duct tape thro the center and  onto the sides (a pain to do but better than trashing a reel of filament, but even better suspend the reel in the default way, on a single arm).

Full dia: between 7 13/16" and 7 7/8" (sorry didn't have a metric tape measure and my calipers are only 6". This should convert to just under 199mm.) Hope this helps.

this can always happen if the spool is too easy to turn. Then it unwinds more and more and at some point a loop "skips", triggered by a retract, and when conveying to continue printing, it pulls "the loop" underneath - so the "knot" is preprogrammed ...! The role should be able to run smoothly but not too easily. That's why I don't have you on smooth-running ball bearings, but instead pick you up in the middle. Here I have a "mandrel" that has a "clearance" of 2 cm in relation to the diameter of the spool. This means that the spool always pulls a bit off-center, but still runs very smoothly (which in turn is good for even supply during printing).

Thankyou, this makes more sense, I couldn’t see how I was damaging them on 4 bearings it does turn easily. I’ll have a look if it can knot it’s self. I’ve also put a pair of cable ties through the middle of my other reels to hold them together. Does seem like they need some glue in there.

Conversely, you don't want too much friction. I have a roller with bearings on each end. The roller sits in a "pocket" in the supporting arm. Although you could be more systematic, I found that by inserting a trial and error number of layers of kitchen paper in the "pocket" the friction can be set to the minimum amount required to prevent the situation described by Digibike.

I don´t need any ball-bearings. I had designed the STL. You must go low with the Filament multiple, so the middle part

will after Print break and can than rotate. You need 2 of them for each filament-spool.  If you see, the Filamentholder-Axis will

never in centre of the Filament spool. The weight of the Filament-spool will pull them down every time with no track or Retrac.

But it is not so many out of the centre, so it will rotate very easy, but stopped automatical, if no rotate is wished.
