PrusaForum login persistency

Hi,

this starts to drive me nuts 😀

When I browse forum, I often start as not logged in (or more  specifically, landing page does not remember as logged in). Then when I browse in to an interesting post I want to reply, I hit login button enter the credentials and then I am brought back to Forum home page, and it again thinks I am not logged in. Refresh fixes the Login problem, but I now I have to remember, where the post I wanted was... And on top, on each click through the Forum tree, the pages see me as logged off again! (refresh fix).

It is super annoying.

I apologize, if there is better place to raise issues with the forum...

Hello

I don't know if this is the reason, but maybe it's your browser settings. Try to allow all relevant pages to save cookies permanently.

If this does not help, the cause is probably due to a setting on the Prusa site.

Regards

JBoe

I dont have similar problem anywhere else, so I would suppose it is on the Prusa site...

Do you know, if there is better place to report the issue?

I would try then to clarify it with the Prusa Chat.

I get similar - but when I go to log in it just logs in (no need to enter details).  I'm using FireFox on Linux.

One thing I've found that helps is open the Dev Tools and Click Disable HTTP Cache (When toolbox is open) - you need to open Dev Tools when browsing site

I've noticed they only allow you to be logged in on one device and one app at a time. So if I'm logged into prusaslicer it logs me out of the forums and vice-versa. The same happens if I log in on my desktop instead of laptop. They seem to be quite aggressive with their login clearing.

It is a browser setting.  One computer I don't have this issue, another I do.  Have not found the setting yet.

It's happening to me across browsers (firefox and edge) and devices along with the app and prusaslicer on 3 different computers. It's definitely a site/cookie thing not just a browser setting.

As soon as you log into one, it logs you out of all of the other devices. Most likely for security reasons but it's extremely aggressive with it's setting.

Thanks for the 'refresh' tip which I will try. I have the same issue (Firefox on Win11, no other logins nor on other devices) and it was driving me crazy, too.

RE: PrusaForum login persistency

The way they manage logins is — bad.  (I wanted to use a different words but I know kids may read this). What OP describes happens every.fricking.day. So my daily routine is: open a forum post. Oh, I'm logged out. Click login. (At this point more likely than not it will automagically log me into—my other Prusa account ☹️ But sometimes I get lucky and it gives me the login screen. Enter credentials. Now I'm logged in but back to the forum main page. Left (back) arrow in my browser until I'm back on the post page I was reading originally. Of course it still shows as logged out, so Cmd-R for Refresh. At long last, ready to post!

It is aggravating and having a different account on the forum than other Prusa pages (don't get me started why) makes it particularly "exciting".

RE: PrusaForum login persistency

As I said before, it is a browser setting.  Not the forums.  I have one computer that logs me out after a period of time.  Another will leave me logged in for weeks if I don't close it off.  This is in the latest edition of Firefox on both computers.  I have been working on a post and will go to send and find that I am logged out which can be frustrating.  I have been to busy to look into the exact setting that is causing it.

I prefer my browser doing this for privacy and security.  That is my choice.  If you search online, you may find the setting to turn it off.  I have been searching on how to turn it on.

RE:

I don't know. You may well be right. I don't pretend I know. But it it's a browser setting then Prusa is the only company I know who has figured out how to trigger it. No other site I frequently visit logs me out not just daily but sometimes multiple times a day. No other site logs me in (to an unpredictable account) when I click login without presenting an actual login screen. So yeah, maybe it's a browser setting (which one?) but it must be an obscure one (although shared by Safari and Chrome about multiple platforms). Occam's Razor makes me think it's more likely something unconventional with their cookie settings (but maybe something that interferes with local browser setting in a less than desirable way).

in the end it doesn't matter. They should fix it or tell us what browser setting to change, to get to some state of normalcy.

I agree. It is Forum setting. I didn't touch anything in the browser, so why should I. That would mean that while world is supposed to do it.

And it isn't that Prusa wouldn't know how to set it. Printables work just fine.

At least the 'refresh' solution works like a charm - otherwise I would not be able to comment here 😉

RE:

I was thinking this just the other day, but decided not to post as I thought “it’s likely just me not knowing where the ‘keep me logged in’ button was”. Alas, I could not find one, then just carried on as normal, logging in everyday being as persistent as some of you have eluded to being too.

I browse on my mobile, where the problem is prevelant, but right now, on my iPad, so I will try and report if this persists on my iPad the same as it does on my mobile.

I’ve never experienced this problem on forums in the past. Just here, I browse and realise I’m not logged in, then when I want to post, I login and it takes me to the home page and I have to search where the topic was to reply to a post. If I leave the site for a number of hours, I have to login again, which makes me think it is an issue with the forum and the way it caches your data, but, I’m not an software man.

It would be cool if someone from Prusa was aware of why this is happening to not just one person. If it’s a browser issue, then it would be nice to know the remedy, but just to allow you to login and reply to a post directly from the topic page where you saw it, is definitely not a browser issue imo.

Edit:As an aside to this, when I post a reply the ‘green confirmation bubble’ does not appear to be in my native language, despite me being logged into the English forum.

Oh yeah! I always thought that was an attempt by Prusa to incentivize us to learn new languages 😇

EDIT: When I posted this, here's what I got

If it ask me to login each day, I would be fine with that. For me, the annoying parts are:

  1. Back to homepage after login (which is even more frustrating on the phone, when you want to watch forum if multiple languages)
  2. Having to refresh each subsequent page you visit after login so it recognises you as logged in.
