Printed Solid is Changing Leadership
3D printing legend Josef Prusa takes emergency command of Printed Solid after CEO exit
Interesting so see how this plays out. I know they started a Prusament line and print farm to crank out parts. Perhaps it will become entirely absorbed into Prusa?
RE: Printed Solid is Changing Leadership
My issue with them in the recent past was that it often cheaper (and faster) for me to order from Prusa directly. Interesting to see how this will play out.
RE: Printed Solid is Changing Leadership
While still surprised, I think the last couple of the (more or less) annual tour video's by well known youtubers in the printing space already had a different energy to them and this explains a lot to me.

Amen. If an item was actually in store, it was usually cheaper to order from Prusa directly. Plus, ordering from Prusa usually resulted in the parts being here before PrintedSolid even shipped them….
Occasionally I also ordered from PartsBuilt3D who always seem to have more inventory than PrintedSolid, go figure.
I really hope that this is a Good Thing and helps get PrintedSolid become more efficient. So far it felt like it was just a way for Prusa to address customers that require "Made in USA" as opposed to non-corporate/government users such as me.

RE: Printed Solid is Changing Leadership
That looks like a not-entirely-amicable departure? Otherwise they would probably have planned for a smoother transition, without Joe Prusa having to step in as an interim leader. Are there any explanations or rumors who was unhappy with whom, and why?
RE: Printed Solid is Changing Leadership
With no transisional management in-place, it certainly seems like it was a sudden departure. According to Prusa on Reddit it also appears they plan to step up their retail presence in the US. Like getting the printers into brick-and-mortar stores:
That's a project we are actively working on. I haven't checked on it recently but I think that should be available quite soon
Discussion over on Reddit: David Randolph resigning from Printed Solid

Ah, I'm glad it was Tommy, the PR manager, and not Joe Prusa who wrote that. When it comes to key business strategy, "I haven't checked on it recently" is not something you want to hear from you new interim CEO... 😉
RE:
"Under Randolph’s leadership, Printed Solid evolved from a small 3D printing supplier into a key manufacturing hub for Prusa’s European-designed hardware. The company has a small Prusa print farm churning out parts for MK4S and Core One 3D printers that are assembled in Delaware. Work is underway to source sufficient American-made parts to earn the printers the coveted “MADE in the USA” stamp. Josef Prusa has stated that he wants his team to become the largest 3D printer and filament manufacturer in the U.S." ~ https://www.tomshardware.com/3d-printing/3d-printing-legend-josef-prusa-takes-emergency-command-of-printed-solid-after-ceo-exit-prusa-holds-the-fort-as-successor-hunt-begins
I'm going to have to remember this. This is what I am looking for. It costs a little more... But it's preferred.
But if I remember correctly (which I have a very bad memory so take this with a grain of salt) when I was looking to buy my Core One, I contacted them. And they told me, if I got the company right based on the logo, that I couldn't buy from them because they were prioritizing schools and government.
So on one hand, I am glad. On the other, not.

That seems to happen a lot when a business is sold to a larger entity, and the founder stays on, but is only nominally in charge.
RE: Printed Solid is Changing Leadership
Not that that acquisition has ever made much sense to me. Sure, it provided Prusa with an inroad to business, government, education, that require "buy in America". But beyond that it didn't do anything to become a brand ambassador for Prusa. Most of their product line was non-Prusa stuff. Their inability to have Prusa parts continuously in stock when even competitors had them, the high prices, and their excessive order fulfillment times didn't help to raise the Prusa profile on the US. They should have shut the place down and reopened as "Prusa USA", which I'm pretty sure is not what the founder wanted. Well, it's not too late.

RE: Printed Solid is Changing Leadership
It would have made sense for Prusa to change it to Prusa USA, but they didn't. I have this lingering suspicion is that the sudden departure could be caused by differences in company cultures, which is known to be a major stumbling block to succesful integration of acquired companies.
RE: Printed Solid is Changing Leadership
I'm of course speculating.... Maybe this is a China/Hong Kong situation. We are going to take you over but still give you autonomy until it no longer suits us.
RE: Printed Solid is Changing Leadership
Hard to tell why, but I think “Made in America” will make sense and work out over time. I agree that they need to lower costs.

RE: Printed Solid is Changing Leadership
I am thinking of buying a roll of Printed Solid PETG to try. I kinda need some red. I have been buying MatterHackers Red PLA, which comes out kinda tinted slightly orange(?) and is not a vibrant red.
Anyone use the Printed Solid PETG red? Does it look good?

I received a roll, and it prints well. It is red.

Cool. Does it look approximately like the photos? If so, that's much better than matterhackers red. I don't think it's even red...
Try this: 3D-Fuel Tough Pro PCTG Toolbox Red I have a roll of this. It's more expensive than PETG but it prints way better and it's very red.
RE: Printed Solid is Changing Leadership
It is more red than matter hackers.

Well things are starting to change at Printed Solid and not for the better. Jessie and Elixer filament both went up in price by $5 a spool.
RE:
You have named one thing. Positives to Printed Solid and Prusa USA are that we now have an Amazon Prusa Store, and there are more items in stock at Printed Solid over the last two weeks.
