There are even nicks like Thingyreuploader
For me it is ok if someone asks as thingy is general public but just grapping and getting way many downloads and likes is not the idee of the prusameters
as special for me working as a teatcher and some extra spools of very good filament insted of 7Eur crap as money is offen short in Schools
woudt Help the students to get better prints
Thank you for in Firsthand provideing this palatform
a HAPPY Teatcher
PS: the contest even can lead to a TEST hows student Modell gets best result like and downloads will get a A+ no like wil get C-

3 winners on 400 models in contest why not giving some more a 5-10 prusameter for the hard creativ Work
I have no objection to the contests as contests - you know what the prizes are before you enter so by entering you accept the odds. I object to the contests as generators of thousands of hastily designed, untested and often unprinted files that make it almost impossible to find the decent parts that are buried in the depth of Printables...
More prizes might cause more entries, the last thing we want.
And the first thing we want is the ability to filter contest entries out of search results.
For example:
https://www.printables.com/search/models?competitionAwarded=1&q=cheese
Finds contest winners -
https://www.printables.com/search/models?competitionAwarded=0&q=cheese
DOES NOT find eveything except winners, the competitionAwarded=0 is stripped by the search engine and you get everything cheesy
What we need right now is a properly implemented competitionEntry=0
Cheerio,
Finds only

RE:
There's a report function to report a model, but it isn't completely obvious. Click on the 3 dots to the right of the model title and it should give you the option to report them for theft. I imagine it will probably be a bit like playing Whack-A-Mole if you've had a large number of models stolen.
You mentioned in the last line of your post grading students' models by downloads and likes received, and I have to take some issue with that. A student's grade should be based on the effort, skill, and creativity that went into the model, and how well it completes the assignment, not on a popularity contest depending on how many people on some website downloaded or liked it.

Thank you sir for the infos on the Button .
and your guess on the Students
Please do report them. @netpackrat has given you the procedure if just a single model/part has been stolen.
To find if the thief has taken more:
Right click on the name above the thumbnail, this will take you to the account of the person posting the file. Next left click on '3D Models' at the top of the account page and all their submissions will be listed.
Check the list, note all the thefts you recognise.
Now report the user: There are three dots beside the user's avatar picture, click there.
In the report give the original URLs of (some) of the stolen work.

And I agree, grading by downloads and likes is a mistake and also too easy to cheat. Grade on how well it performs its function and how easy it is to print; if possible perform an extended test and mark on how well it survives heavy use.

I'm not sure Printables can survive many years with its current "hands off" philosophy. You'll see a contest where one person enters up to 50 3D models, none of which has been 3D printed. Copies of other people's work with zero printing info. Only if Prusa decides to really moderate all models will it grow and become better, rather than degrade with a proliferation of just zero use models.
If a model doesn't have an obvious 3D printed model, and complete printing and assembly instructions (if necessary), just drop the entry into the bit bucket.. As should happen with people who individually post every letter of a Font table; and the such.
And actively act on comments to the moderator from the web site.. I/ve sent such a comment to Prusa on a model and never gotten a reply back. Printables is a great idea.. but it takes more resources than Prusa is willing to invest for real longevity.

I just wish they would put things back to the way they were before they started this crap!
I just wish they would put things back to the way they were before they started this crap!
It would be better if they merely deleted everything uploaded this year, including mine; deleted the thingiverse link and closed down the Prusameters awards.
I used to download and print half a dozen or so files per year, this year I *have* downloaded a few but the only ones I have printed have been attempts to diagnose problems reported by users here.
The only light on the horizon is this commercial tie-in which means a few collections of properly specified and tested prints, let's hope this is the first hint of some quality control...

Looking back at 2022, the Printables team has done a ton of good stuff to improve the website but on the negative side of the balance sheet, the combination of Prusameters and flash contests has undoubtedly led to a significant decline of quality.

RE:
I agree. I like the contest idea. But if you look at the hundreds of entries in the latest christmas contest including the bizzare Bankze entrees and multiple posts by single individuals you ll see this needs a moderator or it spirals down into mostly low quality stuff that might not even be printable. Filter the entries before you add to contest so there isnt so much junk it isnt able to be parsed by people.

The Jury needs to do a Better job
as of the E3D contest there are many models that took hours to modell and to print
and i see 50+ with only a letter on the roof
ALSO 3 winners on 400 models in contest why not giving some more a 5-10 prusameter for the hard creativ Work
RE: printables getting more and more ++stolens++ from thingiverse
The new flash contest: Bookmarks… I mean, how low can we go? Ok, in all fairness, we had buttons and drawer knobs before. But are they actually deliberately trying to flood the site with crappy designs made for Prusameters?

RE: printables getting more and more ++stolens++ from thingiverse
I think the flash contests are stupid when they exclude models that were previously uploaded. I designed a LCD knob for my own use, and posted it to the site because I thought it might be useful to somebody else. Two days later, they posted a flash contest for LCD knobs, and my model was not eligible. I literally missed the window by one day. Granted, my model was nothing special as far as LCD knobs go, and it wasn't going to win anything. But the way they are running the contests, they are literally fishing for junk. Throw some garbage together, throw it at the wall and see if it sticks.
