Printables Forum?
Prusa is either unable or unwilling to fix this poor forum. Maybe its time to just let it die?? I’ve been using message boards and forums since the 90’s and this one has to be one of the buggiest I have ever used!!
If I want to write or reply to a Post I have to allow Prusa to “Sell or Share My Personal Information”. This one took me a while to figure out. And the list of bugs just goes on and on………
I wonder if Prusa shut this forum down and started a new one in Printables if it would be any better?

Hey everyone, thanks for sharing the feedback and concerns.
- The forums are not going to be shut down
- Yes, they are pretty buggy right now
- Yes, we will fix them and it's something we're scheduling with our web teams now in order to update them at the same time
We already have a pretty comprehensive list of fixes and requests planned out, but if you feel there is something that was missed, please feel free to add it to the main discussion here: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/english-forum-general-discussion-announcements-and-releases/current-update-on-the-forum-march-5th-2006/
RE:
Maybe the pragmatic approach is "use what works". Essential core functionality is what comes out of the printer. Everything else, nice-to-have (in my book, at least).
Still trying to sound not like a fanboy, I don't think Prusa is particularly evil in this area.
The platforms have a long history. An eternity ago, "merging largely independent services that have a little bit in common" into one monolithic blob might have seemed a good idea. But the landscape - especially legal - has changed and keeps on changing. It's absurdly complex and absurdly expensive to get down to details. Requests like for "selling personal information", unreasonable as they may sound superficially, may still be the smaller evil (e.g. if user account history can't be included in a corporate restructuring that may become necessary for whatever reasons, we've got an issue at a time when you need it the least...)
RE: Printables Forum?
“Sell or Share My Personal Information” is just required legal language for the fact that the site creates tracking cookies. That is something pretty much all sites do and depending on where you live: EU, US etc they are required to warn you accordingly.
RE: Printables Forum?
Yeah, it's pretty bad. From major inconveniences such as not accepting 3mf files natively (without zipping first) to weird behaviors such as giving me confirmation messages (such as post submitted) in random languages, to constantly being logged out. And the bizarro number of subforums with 5 or 6 sub-subforums for each of them. The latest "feature" that has hit me now is I can't edit posts anymore on Safari. Just shows an empty text edit box.
But then again, what makes it tolerable is that the quality of posts and responses is (mostly) night and day above alternatives such as the Prusa Reddit forums on which I occasionally check in. While there's the occasional good stuff there, it gets drowned out by a sea of just bad advice from people who don't know what they're talking about.
Many times I wish Prusa would install a new forum software. A few years ago they indicated that they were working on it but nothing came to fruition. But at the same time I want them to focus their probably very limited resources on stuff that is less peripheral than the forum software. And clearly the overall quality of software development and/or quality control for software has gone down dramatically. See the 6.4.0 firmware issues with the XL. The bizarre bugs in their mobile software. Etc. Given what I see as the current status of software quality at Prusa I'm not sure how to feel about the upcoming major update to Prusaslicer…

I get the random "can't edit posts" on Chrome and not on every computer (which implies a caching issue) and on Safari always. And Reddit is a cesspool. Sometimes there are interesting topics but then there is a cloud of stupid people giving stupid advice. One such person's advice was so bad, it led me here for a solution.
Like most companies, they probably use a 3rd party to maintain their web software so I doubt it will take away from their app team. Hopefully the long pause between now and the last firmware update (November) will fix outstanding issues. I'm sure though they are tooling up for the INDX so I don't expect to see anything until March.
RE:
I've come to the conclusion all social media is a cesspool... given time.
But yea, I'd just be happy if they would allow me to make forum edits after a few minutes. The rest of the brokenness I can deal with, begrudgingly.
I'm trying to load files on Printables this morning, and the website just hangs. I mean, it got stuck trying to load a 200kb picture...

I dont post a lot but I do read this forum almost every day. There are a lot of good people on this forum like yourself that make reading it fun. Thank you for taking the time to answer soooooo many questions!!!
RE: Printables Forum?
A pritables forum would be a good addition. I know the leadership of the forum is looking at changes.

I get your frustration. The forum issues, especially the "sell or share personal information" requirement, are definitely a hassle. Moving the forum to Printables could be a good idea if it means a smoother, bug-free experience. Hopefully, Prusa listens to feedback and works on improving things for everyone.

RE: Printables Forum?
but...but... I'm working on it 🙁
I get the frustrations, believe me I do. I give out to Tommy on a regular basis, but I promise everyone here, the forums are not going to be put out to pasture and we are working on things to get the TLC the forums needs.

Most of this thread pre-dates your coming back on board as the admin. I think the latest wishlist and discussion is mainly in the "knock knock" thread you had created when you came back. So you can essentially ignore the present thread and trust that people have repeated their suggestions and complaints in the more recent one. 😉
RE: Printables Forum?
oh I understand, and my comment was mostly done lightheartedly 🙂
