Printables.com Not Showing 3D Model View
I noticed on my 3D model upload I do not have the 3D model preview in the description / thumbnail area.
How do you enable this?
RE: Printables.com Not Showing 3D Model View
I just checked out your Printables page. It's because you've only uploaded .step files. For some reason the previous doesn't work with .step (which is a shame since that's my preferred file format).

Seriously? The 3D render won't work with STEP files!? That's the best format for sharing 3D models amongst different applications is it not? Never would have guessed that was the case. I will upload a STL I guess as well.
RE: Printables.com Not Showing 3D Model View
It would be nice if Printables.com would support STEP directly, but at least it would be possible to implement very quickly auto-conversion from STEP into STL and show that STL in the browser. It could be better than custom uploaded STLs because it can be optimized for web view instead of printing.
The same question was asked 2 years ago: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/english-forum-general-discussion-announcements-and-releases/step-files-on-printables-com-are-there-plans-to-render-these-in-the-3d-cad-view/, but nothing changed.
RE: Printables.com Not Showing 3D Model View
Hmmm. I guess the current stop-gap would be to upload both .step and .stl files. Then mention in the description that the .stl is for the online viewer and remixing using mesh modelling programs, and the .step is for printing and remixing using solid modelling programs.

Yes, but all the users have to manually export both STEP and STL files, upload and then remove useless STL file for that. I haven't checked yet, maybe there is API for printables.com, so it would be possible to write a simple script, which checks all your models, and if there is not STL file, but there is STEP, it would download STEP, convert it to STL and upload it to the model.
I don't see any point in mentioning anything in the description, anyone can take any file they prefer and use.
