PLA Color Change on .stl file

Hi All.... I looked in here .... https://help.prusa3d.com/article/how-to-prepare-stl-files-and-g-codes-for-multi-material-upgrade_2176 for a step-by-step to changing PLA color on a Thingiverse .stl file. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6152924 - The Knowledge Base article seemed t suggest I might have to use meshmixer or Fusion 360 to do 2 colors for this cat peeking bookmark. It also suggested I might be able to use the Prusa Slicer to slide up the color change bt I think this might be more complicated than that but I haven't done a color change yet. If anyone has found a YT video (I'm still searching!) which shows how this can be done simply as possible or if there are any screenshots showing you step-by-step I'd so appreciate that. I'm finding a lot of what to do if thee are problems but not as much in the 1st place as how to do this? Thank you so much.

For this cat bookmark you don't need any manual MMU setup, a simple color change is enough. With a layer height of 0.2 mm, switch to the slicing preview, go up to layer 7 and click on the "+" sign in the layer slider. See screenshot, please click on the image to see in without cropping. Now everything above that will be printed in another color from the one below. Now save your project and export the gcode.

Hi JP and Walter,

Thank you both!

Joan is such an asset to Prusa. She should be on the payroll! 🙂

Walter - when I follow your directions and after I cut the gcode will the MK4 stop at the printer where the kitty's paws begin so I can unload the 1 PLA color to load in another PLA color?

Thank you again both so much.

Yes, the printer (if it has a firmware that supports this command, if it is a Prusa printer it will, otherwise most, but not all printers will do that) will stop and prompt you to change the filament color. You just follow the directions on the printer's display.

Walter... I must be tired but after I press the Preview (stacked layers on lower left) I see the attached but I don't see how I reach or select Layer 7?  Thank you.

Slide the slider on the right hand side of the plater. When you open the view it is in its topmost position, slide it down from there. I mean the orange hexagon with the "+" in the middle. See screenshot, click the image to see it without cropping!

The layer slider is on the right, slide that up and down to go through the preview layers. When you get to the one you want you can click the + icon and I see a colour change (or other gcode command)

You might want to read the PRUSA slicer knowledge base for the basics, https://help.prusa3d.com/article/insert-pause-or-custom-g-code-at-layer_120490.

I think I see it now. It starts at 2.2 (11) and I can drag that down to 1,40 (7) and that's where I can Export the gcode, correct?

Thank you so much!

RE:

No, you first have to click on the "+" to add a color change! After the layers appear in two different colors, you can export the gcode.

And you really should read the manual ... 🙂
