No AI models in contests

Am I the only one, or does anyone else think that it's unfair and uncreative to use AI generated models in contests?
Can we add a non-AI-rule to the contest participation terms?

BR, Thomas.

I think AI-generated models should be allowed in contests, as long as the creator is transparent about the process. AI is just another tool—like a slicer or CAD software. It's the creativity and intent behind the model that matters.

They should be allowed. It's an aid to help the designer, similarly to what spell checking is for writers or guitar tuners for guitarists. I just don't want Printables to be overflooded with poor quality models.

i don't think so. spell checkers and guitar tuners don't take over the creative part, they are just tools.

BR, Thomas.

Since submissions are evaluated on their merit rather than the process by which they were created or the identity of the creator, I see no reason why not.

(I used AI to help formulate this post — but does that really matter?)

I’m ok with AI models but AI pictures of the AI models should be banned from Printables!!!

Ok, I'll bite : where are you going to get ChatGPT / Claude / other LLM to generate an STL for you from a prompt ?

I've seen AI picture generation (and floods of it!) on printables...  which is maddening, as the pictured item could never have been created from a 3D printer (e.g. https://www.printables.com/model/1349788-cute-lil-toothless-updated ).

I have not, however, seen an example of an actual STL (or GCODE for that matter) generated by AI. Is there a service that does this ?

Prusa Core One, MK4S w/ MMU3 (formerly MK4 / MMU3, MK3S+/MMU2), 2 Prusa MINI+, Octoprint. PETG, PVB, (some) PLA.

Search for "image to AI generated 3D model"; there are a number of YouTube videos showing off AI software that will take an image and convert it to a 3D printable model. I haven't used any of them, so I can't provide any corroboration of what gets shown off in the videos; I just remember the adage "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from a rigged demo" and take all the claims with a helping of salt.

Yes, this is what I mean - I have seen pop-up claims of AI modelers, but I haven't seen anything credible (or generally available). Now I really want to know if someone has actually a) found one and b) gotten it to create a functional model...
