@eclectic Use the Report print function (three dots in the top right corner). For the reason, select Other a write the category suggestion you have 🙂
We might implement a better way in the future, but at the moment, this would be the best way to do it.

Hi,

Thanks for this site. Could it be possible to have the option to write the description in markdown for prints?

@dmarting

We used to use markdown, but we have since replaced it with the much more user-friendly WYSIWIG editor.
So just use that for headings, tables, bullet points, adding images etc. 😉

much more user-friendly WYSIWIG editor.

What's friendly depends a lot on the user. The best would be to have both options.

RE: New PrusaPrinters - The best 3D model database and community!

@marvin @dmarting We do support both to an extent 🙂

If you type "# " it will switch to a heading instantly. If you use "*" it will switch to bold text, etc.

We have to pick where to spend developer time and try to use it as effectively as possible. WYSIWYG editors are now present in almost every text editor/web form (including this forum), so that's what we primarily use as well. The support of markdown is there, but it isn't 100%, if you copy-paste text, it won't get translated. We could spend more time on that, but I don't think it's a very high priority task, we better work on stuff that everyone will benefit from. Like we did in the past with collections, 3D viewers for STL/3MF/G-codes, notes for files, folders...

A big thanks for PrusaPrinters, it's a really nice site and I hope it will grow into a great alternative for Thingiverse. My initial impression when first landing on the site was: what a breath of fresh air.

There are a few usability issues I've run into though:

  • Links on the internet should not include the language (e.g. /de/) in the url (or at least cause it to change), this changes my language which is set to English, just by clicking a link, then this setting is saved until I change it back. A better place to store language could be user account/cookie/local storage.
  • Cookies / session storage should not be used for login redirect, I keep multiple tabs open and every time my browser decides to log me out, all my PrusaPrinters tabs are redirected to one and the same page, I often lose things I keep open and want to remember for later. A better place for login redirect is the URL because it will work across tabs, page reloads and closing / reopening the browser (with restored tabs).
  • When browsing prints through multiple pages (infinite scrolling), if I click a print and then return via back-button, the previous position (i.e. print in focus) is not restored, it's easy to lose the place where you were. It's not entirely bad since you at least land on the same page as before, but you also can't scroll back up and you can't return to a previous page. This usually forces me to open prints in new tabs and I end up with even more tabs. 😆
  • Collections are limited to 10, would be nice to be able to create any number of collections to help with organizing cool stuff we find on the site.

These are most of the annoyances I've run into while hanging out on the site, I hope you can take them under consideration. Keep up the good work!

Been a while and I'm still seeing that second point where _all_ tabs logout simultaneously and redirect to the same point. Have a bunch of tabs open for things you want to read about? Too bad, auto logout and it's all gone.

Had hoped this would be a good alternative to ThV but bothersome quirks like that are all too familiar.

STL preview would also be great.

Is there any official stance on linking back to Thingiverse in case of remixes?

3D viewer

We have already added an interactive STL, 3MF and even a G-code viewer 🙂
And there is nothing wrong about linking back to the source of the original model, Thingiverse or elsewhere.

At least in Windows, if you "look at a file" with an application like Prusaslicer, Cura, etc., instead of explicitly downloading it, Windows downloads the file to your temp directory and then opens it with your chosen application. Therefore, you have downloaded it, and unless you have disabled it in Email notifications, you will receive an email to rate the file.

I'm liking the updates to the site and the new rewards system is a nice incentive however I've noticed that links to prints on services like twitter, discord, etc don't generate preview cards, something that can really get people to click through.

I like the new site with badges and recent changes.

When I click a link to a user, I get the users profile with recent information, but how do I get the page with the users creations (models)?
When I look at a model I often wish to see all the other models from the same user, but there is no obvious link to all models by the user.

In "about" the only way I see is to edit the URL and replace "about" with "prints" - Shouldn't there be an easier way?

Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

Click on the Word Print and it will open another page. The number under the word Print will tell you how many files are posted by that user. See the picture by Fuchsr above

Note to the moderators:  User dubs49 has been copying and loading other peoples designs as his own.  It seems to have just started today, 1/1 2022.  I've reported him and hope action will be taken quickly.

Question, it seems that the fake copies are getting likes and downloads and the original modeler will lose out of being credited with that activity.  Can that information be transferred to the right account when taking down the bad actor?

I was going to post the exact same thing. But I figured out it was uBlock Origin setting issue.

In my situation uBO was hiding all top tabs from About to Following in the User page. You can just click the eye-icon in uBlock Origin's setting window to disable cosmetic filtering and you will be able to see the missing tabs again. A lock icon will appear after you click the eye and you can click that to save the setting change for the site.

There's probably a more correct and better way of doing this.

@mysdawg and @reddadsteve the toolbar is completely missing in my browser and @baconfase gave the solution. It is uBlock Origin that is the problem. uBO it filters out the the toolbar in its "cosmetic filter".

After changing the filtering for PrusaPrinters, all is well and I can see the obvious missing toolbar. Thank you all, it was driving me crazy having to edit the URL to get around...

In my experience the "cosmetic filter" primary filters out pop-ups, banners and annoying reminders (including cookie selection). I didn't expect it to filter out toolbar and menus.

I like the updates but do have concerns about moderation and people ruining it for everyone else by trying to game the system.

Needs some clarification about makes and that a photo is required to qualify for points and if when converting points to redeem if delivery is included.

Would love to see an app or public API, so third party apps can be used, for browsing through prints easily on mobile.

Assuming Prusa staff is still monitoring this thread, as there's no other place I know of to post ideas for further improvements:

I would love to see some indication of "Updates" to models. There are a few models posted on Prusaprinters that I print repeatedly, and it would be great to have some way of seeing if there are newer (and hopefully improved) versions available. Could be a visual flag on the thumbnail, for example, plus the "date of last change" on the details page. One way to implement it is to add a flag to the edit screen that an author can select to indicate the edit is not just trivial stuff such as typo corrections.
