RE: New PrusaPrinters - The best 3D model database and community!

I am not sure what you are complaining about.

If this is "your area of expertise", then you might have more experience than him and the likers & downloaders. Perhaps the downloaders just don't need compatibility with all of the manufacturers?

His collection explicitely states that it is "compatible with BRIO and IKEA wooden rails". He does not say anything else. If that's what people want and like, let them do so. Heck - I liked it even though I haven't printed a single piece, because I just liked the idea and that he took the time to create all these.

If you can provide better compatibility, remix it. Good for everybody - and possibly even good for your like count - if the people think your's is of better quality. And if you feel spreading all the models in single prints helps with Prusameters and reach, do so. 🙂

Heck, I have just received a 1 star review on one of my basic parts, because someone didn't like the size and didn't understand how to use it, even though I had explained it in the really long description. Is my part of bad quality because of those reasons?

RE: New PrusaPrinters - The best 3D model database and community!

Exactly IKEA is not compatible with his tracks, not my old Ikea, not my new Ikea, not Ikea of some other folks in the comments.

Uhhh, need...yes, wooden railway owners are used to that some vendors don't play well with some other vendors and have to combine in specific order. That's hell made by vendors feeling that they could patent a tiny bit different shape. I understand, that if you want to make pretty looking things, they don't have to be compatible with anything at all, BTW there is a complete mini Brio collection that is only compatible with itself requiring one to print everything instead of only a few specific parts. So if the aim was to keep the hell that is too common with wooden railway, yeah, call it a feature and advertise it as the biggest advantage. On the other hand, 3d printing is here not to expensively and wastefully make everything that is there to buy, its here to create things that aren't existing (available, cheap enough...) and allow so cool precision that it is possible to make a railpiece that fits well with every single piece of track I have ever seen - not doing it is kinda lazy way, it means that the model is not as good as it could easily be. And so famous maker should have this done if he is also a good maker. No, I am not remixing his work, why should I? I have very different target than recreation of everything that is there, spicing it with a few new pieces. My tracks are something genuine, that you can't buy anywhere.

Whenever anyone states that likes and downloads are quality measure, he says that these mostly incompatible tracks are way better than other tracks not because they look cooler (similar edition is already here for a long while based on tracklib), not because they work better (most of other rails here are much more compatible while my level is best possible to my knowledge), but because they have more likes. My pieces have very different aim so direct quality comparison is not easy, but if anyone tells me, that my pieces are far worse than his, then my blood boils because they are not.

I don't have problems with his models having hundred times more likes, I don't envy that. I just can't stand anyone telling me that I or anyone else is doing worse rails for such a childish reason. The very same story could be told about lego "compatible" creations all around, that's my original masterpiece and I wonder why people are still uploading badly printable lego equivalents one by one like it was something so valuable to be seen piece by piece - instead of making interesting pieces lego don't make and sell. Likes and downloads are NOT A MEASURE OF QUALITY but popularity, most of popular music is trash music nobody will want in a year and its hard to find anyone not admitting that - so prusaprinters should acknowledge the fact and stop stating nonsense.

Why should I do something that seems absurd to me just to gain prusameters and reach? Time needed for such uploads cost more than the filament gained and frankly I don't care for reach, if I did, I would spam the database and do something on facebook, twitter, whatever.

My opinion may not be right, but regret having so bad and right one too often. My models are things you can't see on any shelve. I create things that don't exist and that should be the…

@dejf If you do not have any suggestions or constructive feedback, please create a separate thread on the forum to share your thoughts.

This thread has been a source of numerous good ideas which we implemented. I would like to keep it that way. Thank you.

Most likes, Most downloads, Most views and Top-rated

These are all self-reinforcing.  If sorted into any such order a less diligent searcher is likely to stop at the first one that meets minimal requirements, missing any, possibly many, that may well be of better quality or more suitable but which happen to be further down the list, then the model earns another like, download or whatever and moves up the list...

Most makes -

This is probably the best of the simple filters but also suffers from the same bias - it is at least printable but beyond that there is little indication of suitability to purpose or other measures of quality.

If you have an idea for additional metrics, we are open to suggestions.

The makes per download ratio might be useful but in general we need a much finer grained search tool, especially so for functional models and spare parts for consumer goods.

Perhaps a wiki-style post annotation option so that users encountering a useful but poorly described part can improve its findability.  Good 3D designers are not always skilled writers and categorisers so excellent work may be languishing unrecognised.

Hi,

I like prusaprinters, and not only because it's way faster than others...

What I still don't understand, database being still growing, is that you can't filter properly you search.

When you put a keyword in your search, you will get proposal matching one of your request.

Example : Nespresso pixie, you will get nespresso related objects and pixie related objects. I was expecting objets matching both criteria only.

Adding AND doesn't help i.e. doesn't prevent objects not pathing both criteria to be filtered.

Either search pattern could be documented if it does exist or if not, could be implemented.

That's all for my suggestion,

Regards,

Pierre

Then every Five-Star rating that gets added bumps your average star rating up by a small amount.  It's done so that someone with 27 Five-Stars and 1 Four-Star is rated higher than someone with just 2 Five-Stars.

We don't want to rate the users, it's the prints that matter.  Maybe someone has produced 50 lousy prints and one outstanding gem, it's the gem that needs to be easily found.

OK, consistently brilliant designers are to be celebrated but their prints should rise first.

Hi,

Does Prusa Printer work for t shirt and mug sublimation. I just heard about these printers, previously I was using epson ecotank printers for sublimation that I bought from Amazon.

Hi Sherry,
the Prusa printer, extrudes plastic, not ink.

It is not comparable  with a Sublimation printer

I remember seeing on youtube a video about printing diractly on fabric using a Prusa MK3 and flexible filament.

That was quite some time ago and I don't recall the exact details of the process. The final results were, let's say, 'interesting' but not comparable on any sense to what you can get with a proper DTG printer.

In principle, you can also control ink. However, various modifications will be necessary. Whether that makes sense is another question. Josef even cooks or bakes with an MK3:

RE: New PrusaPrinters - The best 3D model database and community!

Howdy,

General feedback about PrusaPrinters.  I do like it, but there are a couple things that are frustrating about it.  I believe they've been mentioned and hopefully will be fixed in the future.

Typing text in Comments or Makes - no line breaks.  I've been typing things out in Notepad++ adding a . for each line break instead and copying in what I want to post.  (If I type a lot, walls of text are not fun to read and many times I've accidentally clicked on "Detail" or "Files" and then everything I typed is gone.)

Uploaded picture order.  Last picture first?  It would be nice to know which one for sure will be shown first, or even reorder them, so I don't have to delete them all and upload again.

Search.  It would be nice to search for exact text using " ".  Example.  "Girl Scouts" gives some really odd results.

Thanks!

I love the rest of the interface and am looking forward to the 'rebranding' that is planned.

RE:

I was wondering why it is necessary to upload a gcode file to the library in order to see the print metadata on a model  like

  • Total Print Time
  • Layer Height
  • Nozzle Diameter
  • Material
  • Weight
  • etc...

I realize the slicer creates this information and stores it in the gcode file but why can't this same information be written as comments or XML tags to a 3MF project file. Some of this data is in the 3MF zipped file Slic3R _PE.config  already. Some examples from a recent print I submitted are listed

  • ; filament_type = PLA
  • ; layer_height = 0.2
  • ; nozzle_diameter = 0.4
  • ; printer_model = MINI

This seems like a very simple addition that could provide useful information to library models with very little development effort to the Prusa Slicer. At a very minimum, the Web Uploader code could be updated to recognize the relevant Comments/XML tags that exist in a 3MF file right now and display them on the models page. This might lead to more use of the compressed 3MF files instead of the STL format.

@sliverbaer that is exactly the same experience I have too.

When setting up a comment to be easy to read, the blank lines are removed when saving, resulting is a compact block of text. The same goes when adding more than one picture - the order is often wrong and pictures have to be deleted and added again to get the correct order.

Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

I'm new to PrusaPrinters and just posted my first make, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to add a (1-5) star review.  I expected to see somewhere to add a star rating  when editing my post -- what am I missing?

The option to add a rating shows up about 24 hours after you've downloaded the part.  You'll get a message asking you to rate the print.
