New Printer Issues

I just got my new printer, put it together and did my 1st layer calibration. I tried printing a Benchy and the surfaces aren't looking good. Help!

RE: New Printer Issues

Welcome to the forums.

Before anyone has a chance of helping, we need a bit more information other than one photo.  What type of printer? Brand, Model? What type of filament? Brand, anything special about the material (metal filled, glow in the dark)?  Did you slice the file or are you printing something given to you by someone else? If you sliced it, what profiles are you using?

What I see in the photo can be caused by about 30 different issues... and that's before I know what printer it is from. Easiest would be the idler tension screw is too loose. Second is printing ABS using a PLA profile.

@tim-m30

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the reply! Printer is the Prusa Mini. I used all the factory setting that came right out of the box and didn't send the stl files through the slicer. My thought was that they would probably be good to go.

@andrew-b-comeau

if you used the G-code file from the flash disk, did you make sure you used the same type of filament which is in G-code? What type of filament did you use and what temperatures did you have on your display when printing?

@zoltan

Hi Zoltan,

Thanks for the reply. I made sure the filament type was pla and used the sample filament that was provided in the kit. I believe it is called Prusament Vanilla white. Temperature was factory settings: initial layer @ 215°, subsequent layers at 210°, heat bed @ 60°. Ambient temperature in my house is cooler at 63° F.

It looks like it's under extrusion. I did loosen the screw holding on the filament sensor today. Figure, I will try another print tonight.
