Monitor and abort from android phone
I just bought a Logitech C920 webcam. It is plugged into my laptop, which is next to the printer. The printing shows up on the laptop.
Windows Remote Desktop is on my Android phone. I can view the printing process on my cellphone, on my home network. The connection is not always reliable.
I would like to:
- View the printing process anytime I have internet connection, or data service.
- Abort, stop, the printing process (when I am on or away from my home network) if I see a rat’s nest or some other problem.
The internet has been searched vigorously and I still am not sure which way to go next.
I don’t expect step by step from this forum, but maybe an overview of what next steps to take. RPi may be a bit beyond my ability, soldering too.
Another Mk3 is coming, as is a Mini, so it would be swell if I could monitor and abort any of the three. Two more C920s would be bought, or some other better webcam(?).
Any guidance would be appreciated.

Honestly a Raspberry Pi with Octoprint probably your best solution. If you're worried about how advanced it is, you shouldn't be really. There are some really good tutorials out there with step by step instructions including screen prints to get you setup. Plus your existing camera will plug right into your RPi using the USB port on it. I currently have my CR-10 hooked up to my Raspberry Pi and love it. I just ordered a Prusa mk3s and waiting for the order to be fulfilled and shipped, when it arrives I will also put it on a Raspberry Pi running Octoprint.

Also another solution if you are only looking to stop/abort a print would be to buy a smart surge protector, where you can turn the printer off with an app on your phone. I will normally turn my printer off remotely using one when a print finished while I'm at work.

As recommended, octoprint is the way to go. Once you get it configured, I'd recommend Printoid for your Android phone. Everything you have mentioned you'd like to do, Printoid does and SO much more. Plus their tutorials are very easy for setting up port forwarding, their app, etc. I thing it's $5-8, but there is a free version that may be good enough for you and their developers are very active and helpful

I would not worry about setting up the raspberry pi. If you can run and maintain your printer, you can set up octopi.
Soldering is only necessary if you run a zero on the einsy board. This has been shown to be a poor choice as the zero struggles to keep up when running octopi and a webcam.
If you get a pi 3B, you can simply plug it into the serial port on the top of the board and run a separate power supply.
Octoprint set up is fairly easy and straight forward. I have no training/education in hardware or software and was able to set it up with little to no issues.
Give it a shot. I bet you can do it.
