RE: MK4 Wishlist

Ill toss in my vote 🙂

No touch screen

Wifi printing from prusaslicer

Automatic first layer calibration ( conductive pad/touch pad on the print surface that tells the printer exactly the nozzle end to print surface; shoot for the moon!)

Wipe bucket for color change

high pitch lead screws to replace belts (if you want to move into the industrial world more)

continuous printing (printer stops, remove bed, place new, one click it keeps printing. no cool down (within 30mins or so), menu clicking, just keep cycling until the predetermined number of cycles is done or the sd card/print queue is done.)

RE: MK4 Wishlist

Ability to "probe" down in Z until the nozzle touches the print and resume the print from that layer, so the user can attempt to resume after a blockage/filament runout.

RE: MK4 Wishlist

300x300 would be nice.  Maybe 400 to 500 x 400 to 500.

The feelings are strong one both sided.  The Touch Screen one my CR-10S Pro is fantastic.

Possible Features.

Stand Alone 'Stop Print' / 'Emergency Stop' Button

 - I have had prints go wrong like the best of us but when you want to stop the print in a rush you dont want to be scrolling through the menu's. and turning it off doesn't  move the head. If there was a stand alone button that would move the printer head up to the top position this is an easy 'Emergency Stop' when its going wrong. This would help if you are having a blob issue.

(this could be placed on the right side of the case next to the other buttons)

Maintenance Settings

Cleaning Setting.

Having an option like a cleaning setting would be handy instead of having to change the Z axis up to clean the nozzle.

(simply go into the options and press 'Nozzle Clean' or something similar and the printer will raise up and heat up slightly so you can get a wire brush under)

Lubrication setting

It would be split into X,Y,Z axis options

This would let you apply some lubrication to the threads and poles/bearings when required but move each axis slowly back and forth to spread the lubrication evenly.

I would like another extruder with the holes for the heater and termistor goes in in a 45* angle and a extra steel ball.

(It would help cos i always manage to get a big PLA blob over the cables and destroy them) and the display change to quickly raise the carriage

For the lubrication x y and z motion, one could write some simple g-code to simply move those axes slowly over their range several times. Then just "print" the gcode for the axis you want to exercise.

I imagine the pseudocode would be:

home axis
move 0 to max slowly
move max to 0 slowly
repeat

[...] Regarding small touch screens, obviously going to small makes everything difficult but having a good UI design and layout can make even small touch screens work.

Understood that you want both options, but having a large, easily manipulated physical input is essential for me. Touch inputs tend to be very wasteful of screen space that could be better used actually presenting info IMO. I want to be able to select a setting without squinting at the screen and spin up from 0-285 (for example) in a couple of seconds. I find even the default Prusa knob annoyingly tiny. Any "improvement" should still allow the user to add a custom knob.

Bobstro,

I love the knob.

How about multi-color if you have a MMU 😉 (thanks to Bob for pointing me to the original)

It was a bit of a lark, but I love the feel of the big chunky knob, so I left it on permanently. The tactile feedback is excellent!

My two cents...

I think I would upgrade my current mk3s for a mk4 if it would give me a better print quality or a better productivity. I have read on another threads that some motor upgrade seems to improve print quality (search for Moons on the forum...).

I'm not a fan of all this spring tension tweaking (I also own the mmu2s...). If they can't be avoided, maybe some kind of indexes could make help when you have to open and close some parts for maintenance.

I would also be interrested into some sort of automatic filament calibration test. After choosing a filament material (PLA, PETG,etc) on the user interface, the printer would print a sort of torture test with temperature change, fan speed change, and so on. With the right documentation, you could find the best print parameters for each new filament spool.

I also like the possibility to store different z calibration for different printing bed (a sort of bed profile).

RE: MK4 Wishlist

Prusa can't even get the rotary knob and 4 line display to work properly: no thanks on asking them to do a touch screen.  think of it, people can't even find the 7x7 cal settings, let alone how to view the ambient temperature on the 'simple' display that is shipping.  Even simple things like Bed Correction, Linearity and Temp calibration aren't dependable - things Prusa has been trying to do for years.  Imagine if these could be buried under layers of visual prompts using non-standard icons Prusa designs.

No - whatever the next printer does, keep it simple or don't do it.

But wait - hey, when you do a touch screen - be sure it requires a really cool looking stylus to operate, like the old cell phone/personal assistants that were sold in the 90's.  That way, you can sell 'improved' styluses for people who want status symbols. Even have different color grades: Silver, Gold, and Platinum!!!  Imagine: a Platinum stylus for your Prusa MK4.

RE: MK4 Wishlist

How about rather than a touch screen or even improving the current LCD much/any, they simply make all functionality available via an API and simple and standard interface (TCP over WiFi or ethernet, a second serial port, bluetooth, 2 wire, etc..). Then the community can easily build their own interface however they want (a touch screen, simple LCD, via OctoPrint, etc..).

RE: MK4 Wishlist

1.) 32bit controller and touchscreen would be good (also wifi/octoprint included...)

2.) a plug on the backside of the extruder - so if heater cartride or thermistor is damaged to easy replace it.. It's painful to always remove the textile sleeve for just a simple replacement...

3.) for MMU - like the palette2 a "splice machine" or other meachnism would be great for multimaterial prints... loading and unloading fillament is really annoying... and I guess one of the major problems of the mmu unit...
