MK4 and XL release date poll

I am curious what everyone thinks will be the announcement date of each and which will come first?

I think the XL will come first in around April-June with the MK4 coming next fall.

Something is expected to come out in April. Isn't it MRRF around that month?

If they are being sold at Bay Area Maker Faire soon, I will definitely get one. Probably the year after next, or winter of next year.

RE: MK4 and XL release date poll

i dont thoink next year will come a mk4. thinking about the gread design of the mini hotend, i guess thats what they are aiming for. thought about it, and the original mini aluminium heatsink should fit on mk3. but there will be some work to do with the extruder. and i dont think they will go for the einsy board. but the mini board seems - at the moment with all availible informations- not be suitable for the i3 series.

also i heard the sticked to the mk3 frame only because they have ordered back then a huge amount of it and still in stock. i dont think they will go with this frame with new mk4. the mini design with the printed front and back y plates is great, cheap, and massive. guess they will go in this direction.

prusa xl with no tool changer will not be a no brainer for me. if they just bild a big corexy without features, i rather would go for e3d system or build an hypercube evo.

also i dont think they push the XL in the first half of 2020. they still have massive backorder on the mini and its a bigger hit than they thought it will be. also they will be able to earn longer and more money from it than they thought. no reason to push out a new product, when the mini is selling like free candies, and the mk3s is solid, works, and still has much sellings.

just remember, prusa istn an engeneer or something, he studied economics and leads a company 😉

just thinking out lought.

i also dont think that the mini 1:1 clones will be that massive cheaper than the original prusa. the price tag on it is allready very good.

so, if there will be a good clone like the trianglelab mk3s, or the fystec mk3, it wouldn't be such a big competitor... the aimed marked like schools and beginners will only buy prusa due its PR and reputation, customer support etc.

one more reason not to push to fast a new product out there... the cashflow will work for a while for prusa

RE: MK4 and XL release date poll

I had hoped we might see the XL announcement in the run up to Christmas and shipping early next year but given the impact Covid has already had and the fact that the Czech Republic is getting hammered in a second wave ( https://twitter.com/josefprusa/status/1310329996116979713 ) I think all bets are off. Until there is a stable supply chain and more Prusa staff are back working in the offices to finish development and start manufacturing I'd be surprised if we hear anything in the next 4-6 months.

But I like surprises and hope I'm wrong!

As i understood (from livestream few months ago) MK4 won't come before Q1 2021, and XL is "ready" but they are finetuning it for Q4 2020...

If their suppliers can get the parts to them that is.

Normal people believe that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain’t broke, it doesn’t have enough features yet.

It sounded to me more like we have done 80% and working now on the hard 20%.

Just look at the lead time. Prusa Mini is huge success with 7 weeks. MK3 demand is still there with 2-3 weeks. Everybody is counting on the big COVID19 wave during/after the Christmas time. In Europe it's a big thing where families are coming together.

Even if they are making Prusa XL ready for the first look end this year, early next year. And let's assume they're also able to source the new parts. From the business perspective it doesn't make sense to announce it. They don't have any bandwidth to assemble/ship it. The Mini/MK3 sales would suffer because of that.

As an expert in COVID, I would not count on a big wave in the winter.  That is controversial.  I am hoping that masking will reduce that wave to a trickle.

I would like to believe it. The thing is, you can't really meet outside in winter. Means families are coming together in closed rooms. They hug. Perfect conditions for wider spread.

Beside of that, You can see it already right now. Daily cases are increasing in Europe again. The result is more strict policies with all the economical effects tied to that.

I just ordered a new printer from Kickstarter to try.  It is not a Prusa but sounds promising.  It is the BIQU BX.
