Misleading MK4 10% discount program - BEWARE!

When buying an assembled MK4, Prusa has applied a discount program allowing to buy 5 more assembled MK4 printers at a 10% discount. GREAT! So I bought an MK4 + enclosure-kit bundle and thus I am eligible for the 10% discount on subsequent 5 MK4 printers. I am very happy with the printer and enclosure, and visited the Prusa shop to buy another MK4 and enclosure but unfortunately got a very unpleasant surprise. It goes like this: If no discount is applied (one is not qualified, or not logged into the Prusa account), the MK4 is 990E and the enclosure-kit bundle si 174, totalling 1164Euro. Now, since I qualify for the 10% discount on new assembled MK4, the MK4 will cost me 891 with the 10% discount applied, but the enclosure-kit bundle is now 273 instead of 174!!! This makes the total price for MK4+enclosure 1164Euro, so same price as if no discount on the MK4 was applied. I must say I find this "10% discount program" very misleading. I was not expecting the enclosure-kit bundle to be 100E more expensive, offsetting the MK4 discount. I also contacted Prusa customer service regarding this issue, since I was sure this pricing was a mistake on their part, but unfortunately they confirmed that this is how it should be. What does other users think about this? I certainly lost some goodwill towards Prusa, and so far has not ordered a second MK4...

The bundle already includes a hefty discount, so I think it makes sense they wouldn't apply a second discount.  The terms clearly state "applies the 10% discount on the standalone assembled MK4 printers", so there is no intent to mislead anybody.  The discount does not apply to "bundles" that include other items because those bundles already include another discount.

Well, combination of multiple discounts is very often not possible, no matter where you look. That is the case also here. Your Mk4 discount and the Mk4+enclosure bundle discount do not add up.

It is not at all an issue of getting a more discount on the enclosure bundle. I am not asking for that of implying such. The issue is that they increased the price on the enclosure bundle with 100 Euro once the MK4 discount is applied.

The issue is that they increased the price on the enclosure bundle with 100 Euro once the MK4 discount is applied.

Which is perfectly reasonable and consistent with the terms of the MK4 discount.  Like most companies, Prusa isn't allowing the "stacking" of multiple discounts.  You have the choice of the "bundle discount" on the MK4+Enclosure bundle, or the 10% MK4 discount on a standalone MK4.   Take your pick.

Read the terms of the discount again.  The 10% discount is applicable to a standalone printer, but not to an already-discounted printer+enclosure bundle.

Thank you ScottW for your views on this.

Yes, I read the terms carefully a number of times in order not to miss out on anything, but maybe I did even so. If the terms are now updated to include “.... but not to an already-discounted printer+enclosure bundle” (your quote) that is great, because then the discount terms can not be called out as misleading. In fact, this is exactly what I asked Prusa to include in the discount terms so that it is clear that in reality the total price for MK4 +enclosure is the same even if you have a 10% discount applied on the standalone MK4 itself.

I am glad if they updated the terms, let me please check them again... Hmmmm, I checked and I do not see that the terms are updated with what you wrote in your latest post... Am I looking at the wrong place perhaps?

It is my understanding that you are offered 10% discount on an Mk4 (and Prusament if I am not mistaken) and you can get 10% discount on your MK4. It is nowhere offered to get a 10% discount on the Enclosure and why would then the bundle of MK4 and Enclosure be valid for that discount? Please point me to where that is offered by Prusa, in case I missed it.

I do not understand what is misleading there. If buying an Mk4 and Enclosure, in one order but not within the bundle, gives you a bette price than the bundle, nothing is stopping you from ordering it that way. You get your MK4 10% discount.

Thejiral, what you write in your first section is quite accurate, and inline with what I have been trying to write. I have not at any point claimed that any discount on the enclosure is offered.

It is like this:

1. When you first buy an assembled MK4 (990 Euro) you also have the option to buy an enclosure (174 Euro), totaling 1164 Euro (You can easily verify this in the Prusa shop).

2. Since an assembled MK4 have been bought, you are eligible for 10% discount on the next assembled MK4 (up to 5pcs). Nothing about discount or anything regarding enclosure. I would then expect to get 10% discount on the next assembled MK4, and same price as before on the enclosure (174 Euro).

3. Now, buying a new assembled MK4 will give you 10% discount (891 Euro). But when adding on an enclosure the price of the enclosure is not 174 Euro anymore, but has been increased to 273 Euro, thus making the total price at 1164 Euro. Same price you can get even if you do not have a 10% discount on the MK4 printer itself.

So, again, I do not expect any additional discount on the enclosure, I just did not expect the enclosure price to increase by 100 Euro (or 99 Euro to be exact).

But maybe my expectations are way off, and indeed I should expect other items to increase in price once I get discount on the MK4?

To quite from the discount page https://www.prusa3d.com/product/original-prusa-mk4-2/#discount :

After the assembled printer is delivered to you, your Prusa account automatically applies the 10% discount on the standalone assembled MK4 printers

(standalone highlighted by me)

Seems pretty clear to me. Case closed.

But you do expect an additional discount. The regular price for an enclosure is 369 EUR. Expecting a special bundle price is expecting a discount. Nowhere is a discount offered on bundles. Again, if you get a better deal with the bundle, take the bundle, if you get a better deal with your 10% standalone Mk4 + a regular Enclosure, take that.

That aside I could not verify your numbers at the prusa shop. The enclosure costs substantially more, even in bundles and standalone assembled Mk4 is 1199 EUR (also when not being logged in and using incognito mode). That is, for both, Austria and Germany.

RE: Misleading MK4 10% discount program - BEWARE!

Yep, seems pretty clear to me too, fuchsr...

And I don't expect additional discount, but was not expecting a 100E price increase on the enclosure when bought together with the discounted MK4, effectively voiding the MK4 discount. Again, my expectations...

Regarding pricing, Thejiral, I don't recognize your numbers. But I see now that Prusa increased the enclosure price significantly in the last day or two. (Bye bye Prusa enclosure...)

Anyway, it might seem like I am the only one being mislead here – so I will leave it with that and keep it in mind next time I might be tempted by a Prusa discount intensive.

The MK4 is still great!! - but I will stick to my own enclosures.

Thank you all for your inputs gentlemen!
