Materials science tests

I’m not sure where to post this — sorry if this isn’t the right place.

Are there any models designed to test the properties of the different filament materials?

Things like coefficient of elasticity, Young’s modulus, hardness etc. ? I’m a 3D printing beginner (and not a materials scientist) so I don’t know anything about testing.

But I’d like to get a better idea of what “strength”, “toughness” etc. mean in practice. Also, layer adhesion, brittleness and so on.

Has anyone created models specifically for testing things to destruction? Snapping, crushing, puncturing etc. Maybe combined with surface smoothness, level of detail.

Basically, I’d like to have something to print in all the different materials to get a better idea of what relative “easy to print”, “strength” and “durability” mean in practice.

https://youtube.com/@mytechfun see this guy, you can probably ask him directly over an email for more.

See my GitHub and printables.com for some 3d stuff that you may like.

Yes, some filament manufacture will have test models you can download. You can also find these on Printables. For tensile strength tests, the "dog bone" pattern is used. Here is an example: ASTM D638 Tensile Strength Test Pieces (5 Types)

Can also search for "filament tensile strength" on YouTub.e
