I don't think you can. The power supply only has the classic power switch on the primary side, in the back of the printer. And I am not aware of a software-based sleep or standby mode (beyond the timeouts for heaters and LED lights).

You can use a remote-controlled "smart plug" if the back of your printer and the power outlet are hard to reach in your setup. That would also enable automatic power-down after the end of a print with some software trickery (Octoprint or such).

it's not a good solution, but oh well, maybe they'll fix it someday.....

Hardly. Previous printers work the same. And there is nothing what could be destroyed by switching off.

I do wish you could at least dim the display manually or after a preset time.

It would be nice for power savings to cut the backlight of the display. But, if it is just so you don't have the bright display shining into your eyes, you may consider one of the many display covers on Printables. I wasn't able to find one for the CORE One, but since the MK4 and MK4S have the same display one of them should work. Here are the search links that I used (for some reason wasn't able to get the advanced search "or" to work, so here are two similar but different searches):

Thanks, baz, but I already have a printed cover.  Was just wishing for something a little more… sensible?  😅

Ifn' you're going down that rabbit hole, I've heard, but not bothered to investigate, one should not power off the printer immediately after printing.   Wait until the nozzle has cooled too, since powering the printer off, obviously, turns off the nozzle fan (which may let the surrounds get to hot, yada, yada, yada)

(I mostly leave mine on all the time, so not bothered to investigate much further...)

Yeah, David is right, officially you should wait until nozzle temperature is down to 50 C degrees ( bed cools down faster) and only then turn off the printer.

It' to prevent heat creep from heater  block to the higher parts of the printing head. It will cause wear out of the parts due to temperature, so certain parts could melt and deform.

So yeah u have two options:

- actively check nozzle temperature in automation and trigger shutdown below threshold

- just empirically check the time needed for the nozzle to cool down and just do a dump wait (add fre minutes to be safe) in the automation and then trigger shutdown

See my GitHub and printables.com for some 3d stuff that you may like.

I have the automatic switch off implemented using Home Assistant, using Prusa Link integration and smart plug. The automation waits for nozzle temperature drop after the print end. I also have to actively specify, if I want to switch off after given print.

I can share my yaml, if anyone interested....

I turn off from the plug as its harder for me to reach the back of the printer, although I always wait until the fans have all switched off after cooling.....

FWIW, I did stumble across this plugin yesterday, if you have Octoprint & a Tasmota flashed smart plug:  https://github.com/jneilliii/OctoPrint-Tasmota

(It looks like it has a "wait for a 50 degree nozzle" setting.)

Home assistant goes long way. I am planning on using Ikea Inspelsing smart plug and setting it to power off after energy consumption has been under a certain treshold for a certain time. As I don't have Core One yet, I'm not certain which values I should be using. Otherwise it is quite simple, and I've done it previously with other appliances.

RE: How to turn off Core One??

Sure:

1) install home assistant with PrusaLink integration, register the printer

2) integrate your smart plug

3) create helper of type input_boolean - this is the switch, where you say "I want to switch the printer off"

4) create the automation:

Trigger: Sensor numeric state, when nozzle temperature drops below 40C for 5 min

Conditions: a) Printer state is "Finished"

b) the helper is "on"

Actions:

a) Switch the plug Off

b) set the helper to "off"

c) you can add notifications if you like
