Here's how I vapor polish my ASA and ABS prints without losing dimensional accuracy or fine detail

In the course of my work reconstructing historical instruments as well as making modern versions for Irish and Scottish music, I've developed a few strategies for polishing my prints (especially since I HATE sanding). I hope this video sparks some ideas of your own!

Edit: what the heck, I'm getting Wordfence'd trying to embed a YouTube video. Hopefully this link works:

I've had very good luck polishing ABS parts by just dipping a soft mop brush in acetone and kinda teasing the surface.

Also got some pieces almost clear by suspending in a jar with a paper towel soaked in acetone.

This is the best video I have seen in months! What a refreshing combination of scientific rigor, clever modeling, and musical creativity.  This technique is pure genius, and I am grateful for the detailed video. And the penny whistle at the end was a real treat!

That sounds fascinating! I completely understand your dislike for sanding. I’ve found that using a polishing compound with a soft cloth works wonders, especially for delicate finishes. It might be worth trying a rotary tool with fine polishing pads as well. Looking forward to seeing the video and your techniques!

Wonderful video.  Useful knowledge  Reading the paper is educational.  Paper shows that the strength of the parts improves through this process.  Here is a link to the paper for those that are interested.

Development of the Improving Process for the 3D Printed Structure

Finding this is timely as I am working on a project that is supposed to look good and needs to be strong and light.  If I can drop the material and strengthen the model at the same time I gain on both aspects.
