Help me preserving memories of loved ones
In the past few years multiple people I love have passed away or are having health issues that will cause them to pass away. Pictures are well and good...but I want to preserve more than a 2d image. In short: I am wanting to buy a 3d scanner and scan my loved ones. I want my kids when they are born to have a sense of the person. A face to the stories told, and lessons taught.
In short: I am looking for recommendations for a high performing 3d scanner.
Ideally something that has ultra high detail.
I have never done 3d scanning before, but would rather go high end and learn than go low end and be limited.
I also intend to use the scanner for 3d printing as well...ideally something that works well with my MK4s (soon to be converted to core one) and prusaslicer/orca.
My budget is between 500 and 1000 (ish...dont mind going up a few hundred if needed). I would like something that can do human sized scans or at least a head bust with color, texture, etc.
Anyone have suggestions?

See my GitHub and printables.com for some 3d stuff that you may like.
Look into photogrammetry and consider spending the money on a suitable graphics card.
Cheerio,

It might be an unpopular opinion on this forum, but for the use case described in the OP, I think photos are much better than 3D miniatures: They show different facial expressions, can show people in different settings or activities they enjoy, etc.
Better yet, produce some videos: At work, or at their favorite hobby, or interviews where you let aging relatives talk about their life. That will preserve much deeper and more colorful memories than a 3D figure.
If you really want a 3D scanner, I am sure you can come up with other use cases. 😏
