First Layer Overrun

Hello All

This is my first post in the forum and I have limited knowledge in 3d printing so I am looking for some help regarding how to reduce overrun of the first layer. I have a model that is just within the print space limit of my Ender 3 printer. Support material has been added which is fine, but the first layer goes beyond the model and support material by a few millimeters.  I am now getting a notice saying a toolpath is outside the print area. I would like the first layer to stop flush with the support material. Can this be done?

Thanks in advance

Nick

I don't know if that would do what you require, but I recently discovered that you can right-click a model on the build plate and select "Scale to print volume" which will make the model as big as the printer can handle, seemingly while still considering the size of the skirt and/or brim.

You could also try reducing your skirt distance (Skirt and brim > Distance from object) or disabling it entirely (Skirt and brim > Loops (minimum) = 0) to get a bit more space to work with.

Did you check that the "brim" option is deactivated? There is a box one can tick in the object view or you go to the menu "skirt and brim".

The brim is only added once you slice your object, which can increase the overall dimensions after slicing. While you are at it make sure that skirts are also deactivated.

If what you describe is not a brim I am not sure what else it could be. One can get an elephant foot in the first layer but that should even in the worst case be no more than the width of your nozzle.
