First layer number in Slic3r

Hello,

I have a question about layer number presented in Slic3r. Each time after generating GCODE the first layer number starts from 2 (not 0 as layer_num variable has). But this behaviour is only on the second tab:

I searched in Slic3r options but didn't found any switch or field to change this. I'm asking about it because I add comments with [layer_num] to my GCODE files to quickly navigate for layer which I want (ex. for put there M600 for changing color). layer_num starts from 0 but on the Slic3r interface there's +2 shift. I know that is simple math and I can substract 2 to get the layer which I'm looking for but is there any reason why it's done in that way? Or if I can change this how is this setting configurable?

Re: First layer number in Slic3r

I see layer 1 ... you might have corrupted the gcode or have some odd setting. Also possible your model isn't touching the bed, thus the first sliced / printed layer is in the air.

ps: also, not sure how you got layer 1 to be 0.1 mm; seems you've been busy playing with Slic3r settings, so try starting from a default profile and watch for the jump to "2" as you make your changes.

Yep - modifying layer 1 from 0.2 mm to 0.1 mm "changes" it. But I can still set that slider to read 1 ...

Re: First layer number in Slic3r

Hello,

thanks for your answer but it didn't help. I have many profiles for variuous settings and materials, even configurations for glass bed and it's not the reason of such behaviour but seems to be something with Slic3r itself. I was trying switching layers' height and it didn't changed the number value (always 2). I also checked the suggestion about "hanging" model in the air but none such thing have occured. Even on third tab, where we can see all layers, the height is presented correctly. Generated GCODE files has proper numbers (started from 0). Today I purged Slic3r and all "Prusa" stuf (drivers, etc.) from computer, reinstalled it, generated GCODE for simple models using default settings and I still see "2" as starting layer. I'll try to check later whether there's no trash or weird settings in Win registry.

Re: First layer number in Slic3r

The number shown is only the value the slider is pointing at; it isn't the lowest layer. Did you try dragging the control down ?

Re: First layer number in Slic3r

I tried but no success, no matter there's 20 or 2000 layers (I had a model with height ~ 18 cm and 0.1mm resolution and then was the same situation).

Re: First layer number in Slic3r

I've found that clicking repeatedly on "Travel" checkbox combined with "Retraction" causes another weird behaviour as seen on attached gif:

The version of Slic3r I used is 1.41.3 (64bit for Windows).

Sounds like you need to send a bug report to github....

I reported this. It seems to be an old bug. If someone is interested this here's the link:

Re: First layer number in Slic3r

Newest release of Slic3r PE (1.42.0-alpha7) doesn't have this issue. Now, everything is fine.
