Filament Dryer Survey-Any opinion is appreciated!

Everybody!

I have a few questions regarding 3d printing and I would really appreciate any feedback.

Do you currently use a filament dryer?

🔘 Yes 🔘 No 🔘 I’ve been thinking about it

If yes, what brand and model are you using?

(e.g., Sunlu S2, PrintDry, Sovol, or DIY setup)

How often do you dry your filament?

🔘 Every time before printing 🔘 Only for certain materials (like Nylon, PETG, TPU) 🔘 Rarely or never

What do you love most about your current filament dryer?

(e.g., ease of use, quick heating, consistent results, etc.)

What do you hate about it?

(e.g., takes forever to heat up, noisy fan, too small, feels cheap, uneven drying, etc.)

How long does your current dryer usually take to reach temperature?

🔘 Less than 10 minutes 🔘 10–20 minutes 🔘 20+ minutes 🔘 Not sure

Do you prefer a dryer that can run while printing (live feed)?

🔘 Yes, always 🔘 Sometimes 🔘 No, I dry first then print

Would you rather have:

🔘 A compact dryer for one spool 🔘 A larger dryer for 2–4 spools 🔘 A modular setup that can expand later

How important are “smart” features to you?

(Wi-Fi control, presets, touchscreen, app integration, etc.)

🔘 Very important 🔘 Nice bonus 🔘 Don’t care

If you could design your perfect filament dryer, what would it include — and what would it definitely not include?

This survey is open to anyone looking to voice their opinion on filament drying. I'll explain why I'm asking these questions after the survey closes

RE:

I do use a dryer, Creality Space Pi plus.
Like that it takes 2 spools, has a clean and simple UI and a compact footprint.
Dislike that it opens towards the back, so you need room behind and above it (or pull it forward) to load filament .

I dry all filament types, but not before every print, only when I "feel" that they have been sitting on the shelf a while before getting used again.

Heating-up time is a fraction of the total time for drying, so I don't care at all and have no idea what the actual time is.
The Creality could be used for live feed, but I have not set it up that way.
2 spools is the right balance for me -- compact, but lets me plan ahead at least a bit.
Smart features? What for?! I need to be there to load and start it, and it has a timer for total runtime -- that will do for me.

I have no need for a "perfect dryer". They are about as exciting as a "perfect hairdryer" or "perfect garbage bin" -- just a utility thingy.
If it is your hobby project or business idea to build a "perfect dryer" -- I would reconsider. 😉

Do you currently use a filament dryer? yes

If yes, what brand and model are you using? Polymaker Polydryer

How often do you dry your filament? *mostly* for certain materials (PETG, TPU, ASA, but also PLA that's been stored for a while)

What do you love most about your current filament dryer? Modularity, ability to print from and store filament in their boxes, relatively low running cost, ease of use

What do you hate about it? Nothing to hate

How long does your current dryer usually take to reach temperature?  Not sure. it's not a priority tbh since you're going to be drying for hours, if it takes minutes or seconds to get to temp isn't material

Do you prefer a dryer that can run while printing (live feed)?  Yes

Would you rather have: no preference. I have a compact dryer for one spool, but have two of them and frequently run them simultaneously so a larger one could be just as useful to me

How important are “smart” features to you? Don't care. Prefer without tbh. This is an appliance

If you could design your perfect filament dryer, what would it include — and what would it definitely not include?

For sure keep ability to keep it running while printing from it. Keep ability to store filament in the modular boxes. Would add a desiccant holder that can be restored in a microwave. Improved support of high temp filaments

Cheers!

why don't you make an anonymous poll on google docs?

See my GitHub and printables.com for some 3d stuff that you may like.
