Filament brand

Hello Community!

before I ask my question: I am completely new to Prusa. After having a shitty 3D printer (not a Prusa, but 3 times as expensive) for 2,5 years and almost giving up this hobby out of frustration and insanity I decided to get the Prusa MK3S. I just finished the kit this morning and made the first benchy. Building was surprisingly simple and I did not have any problems what so ever. After building I did a calibration and started the benchy immediately. What can I say. After being tortured with failed prints on my other printer the very first print I made on the freshly built kit was almost flawless (just the belt tension needed slight adjusting). I am so amazed how good the printer works. I am so happy that the hobby is saved. Sorry for this but right now I am so exited I just had to post it.

So now my question. Does anyone have experience with filament from Sunlu (shiny) or Eryone? One can get them cheap from amazon. Are there any recommendations on what filament brands are good and which are bad? There are a lot of sites on the net who recommend some. But I would rather hear form people who actually used it them selves.

Thanks!

Best regards

M.

RE: Filament brand

I use PETG almost exclusively and like two brands:

Hatchbox is my favorite as I have the fewest problems printing however, their supply chain is sketchy sometimes going months without some colors in stock.

eSun is my second choice but I do have a few more problems with it with stringyness being the major one.

Jerry

Both are available on Amazon at, I think, reasonable prices.

In the UK, I use SUNLU PLA and PETG and find them quite good, better after drying the filament though, it's not the best, but certainly not the worst, can be a little stringy (moisture hence the drying) and can vary a little between reels (again moisture), but for the price, it's good.

Another brand (PETG only used) is Technology Outlet, I find their PETG filament really good, but it does require a higher temperature than some PETG filaments and is more transparent, it's more like PET in appearance and is referred to as T Glass (Tough Glass). It can take a bit more work to get the settings just right, but when you do, it prints nice strong glossy parts, but remember, this is not opaque so has trouble with the optical filament sensor of the MK3 and the black can look a little dark green depending on the light.

Both available from Amazon and reasonably priced.

Normal people believe that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain’t broke, it doesn’t have enough features yet.
