FEATURE REQUEST: Print Log in Slic3r
I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but I have a feature request for Slic3r: an automatic Print Log.
The use case is that it sometimes takes a few tries to get a model to print right, tweaking a few settings here and there for the best results.
When I want to go back and print the same model (or a similar one) weeks or months later, it's sometimes hard to figure out exactly what I did the first time around to get the results I wanted. So I wind up repeating the tweaking process.
Of course I could keep my gcode files around (and I usually do), but that only helps if I want to print exactly the same thing. It's pretty common that I'll print a slight variation on the same thing (for example the same object but a different name embossed on it).
I could also keep a log in an Excel spreadsheet that shows all the things I tried and which one worked. But that's a huge amount of work on record keeping that could be automated.
So what I'd like is for Slic3r to have the option to write to a log file every time I save a gcode. The log should include the names of the STL files, and all the print, filament, and printer parameters. Ideally this should be tab delimited so it can be read into another program (for example, Excel) for easy searching and tracking.
It's worth noting that the Slic3r already dumps the parameter list into the gcode file at the end as a bunch of comments. That's better than nothing, but it's very hard to go through that parameter list and figure out what changed from print to print and where I adjusted the default values. A log file would permit some sort of automated processing and be much easier to use.
Re: FEATURE REQUEST: Print Log in Slic3r
Are you familiar with OneNote? We use it to document... just about everything. I know it's not exactly what you want, but a lot less cumbersome than Excel in many ways.
That's "MISTER Old Fart" to you!
